I've applied update 3 and the stuttering fix on nexus mods via the chroma dll. The game seems to be running better than original release, so long as you allowed the original release to compile the shaders before updating to 3, which removed the feature. When I tried the 4th update the game wouldn't load past the epilepsy warning and crashed to desktop, so the 4th one definitely not worth it for me

Returnal was a ps5 game, it had no issues running on Epic (1440p) on 16gb ram. With ray tracing too it wasn't stuttering or anything just fps was low. DLSS fixed that tho.

Those i5s still hold up pretty well with less powerful GPUs, older xeons from that platform are also a great choice

Users report issues with the update so its probably best to not apply update 4. I noticed the game instantly crashes when you talk to a shopkeeper and then try to leave again.

If you still wanna try you should download the update, unpack it and copy paste it on top of the game files. Afterwards paste the crack again

The culprit is due to using an older version of the exe because not only are you only receiving partial fixes and optimisations that were implemented within the game assets independently of any reliance on code changes within the main exe. It could also lead to stuff being completely broken that runs perfectly fine with an updated exe.

That is true even with update 3 and we were just lucky that it worked well enough for most users. As more changes are made to the main exe in future updates the odds of stuff breaking increases significantly when you try to run the game with the old exe.

Performance is good overall. I've finished the demo without any crashes. It didn't stutter for me either. High preset with RT set to normal. specs: i7 10700f, RTX 3060, 16 GB DDR4 3200
