his Country Boy is Going Home...PAUL ANDREW REKIETA of Houston entered into eternal rest Saturday, June 5. From his humble beginnings, born to Steve and Edna Rekieta in Bremond Texas on April 23, 1930, Paul was a beacon of light, a pillar of strength and a source of joy to all he touched. He is survived by Rita, his loving wife of 57 years. She was and will always remain his constant companion. He has three children, Paul Jr. (Andy), Sharon and Bob who are forever enriched with his warmth, humor and generosity. Carrying on his legacy are his grandchildren, Kristen Claeys, Melanie Ladhabhoy and Nick Rekieta as well as his great grandchildren, Veronica Claeys and Christian Rekieta. He was a cherished father to Paul's wife Rhonda and Bob's wife Celeste as well as a proud grandfather to Melanie's husband Riaz and Nick's wife Kayla. He was preceded in death by his loving sister Mary Rekieta. He is survived by sisters Frances Mileski and Louise Stoever and brothers Pete and Floyd. He was extremely proud of his numerous nieces, nephews and their children.Paul lived to serve others. He served his country as a sergeant in the 3rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He served his community with his 54 year membership in Knights of Columbus Council 2917 including terms as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He served his friends with over 20 years working the KC Bingo Hall and being a member of the degree team with his brother Knights. He served all with a warm smile, a helpful hand and a gracious heart. He could always be counted on when one was in need. He always had a tool in his hand, be it a hammer to build a house, an axe to cut a tree or a watering can to grow a garden. However, the tool he was most effective with was his heart. We were fortunate he was born with a big one as he always had enough to share with all he encountered. Enjoy your rest. You earned it.Visitation will be at Pat H Foley Funeral home (1200 West 34th St) from 5:00-7:00 PM Wednesday June 9 followed by a Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church (9915 Hollister) at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 10.The family has asked that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in his memory to St. Matthew the Evangelist Catholic Church.
