Like Babylon 5. Ancient alien races. One that looked like angels, weren't divine beings at all. But they manipulated the younger races and some thought they were divine beings.

In Planescape the Athar are a bunch of maltheists, that preach that gods are just more powerful dudes and not transcendental being worthy of worship. And in D&D they are pretty much correct.

To escape divine retribution they hang out in Sigil or the base of the Spire where divine powers fizzle out.

This is a popular theme in sci-fi and fantasy on account of some people needing to have divine figures, but still not wanting to concede the idea that there may be genuinely divine beings in the universe. Ironically, a lot of these deconstructions end up fitting into Christian concepts of god, as the fact that these false divines are typically assholes using their power to demand worship fits into a popular interpretation of demons.

I just had an idea for a reversal of the whole "gods are just infinitely advanced wizards/aliens" trope where there's a modern-atheist society in the Forgotten Realms setting which was isolated for a very long time and now makes contact with the rest of the world, shocked to find empirical proofs that "gods" exist and trying to cope with the fact.

Wandered over to the Trouble Tickets forum tonight... Sometimes it's even more amusing than the Infractions forum, holy shit the amount of Mother-May-I that goes on. Best part is that the poor widdle overworked mods haven't handed down answers for any of these, all three have been sitting for a week.

Is this allowed? - user begs permission to post a scanned page and maybe a map from a book they own. Freaks out that it might be "PIRACY OH NOES!" (funny enough they just missed Talk Like a Pirate Day lol)

Question: In the Paizo scandal thread - user wants to know if it's (((kosher))) to discuss Paizo, in the thread about Paizo.

Media with a potentially offensive title - user pleads their case to discuss the comic "High Class Homos". Too bad it's not called Flaming Fantasy Faggots, it would describe the entirety of their user base.

(edited to add) - Potential Debt Ceiling thread? - can we talk about this political topic, on a website which seems to exist solely to talk about politics. Hey whaddya know, this one actually got an answer! Huzzah!

Has anyone here heard of the truly execrable RPG "A Place To Fuck Each Other"? It's a game about two women who want to fuck each other but the situation isn't quite right. The premise isn't great, but the rules are so lazy (and the writing style is so self-indulgent) that it turns what's merely cringe-worthy into an almost FATAL-tier game.
The rules basically boil down to
  • 3 players each make a character with four traits: a character trait, a hairstyle, an astrological sign, and a name (you know, the four things that make up a woman)
  • 2 of those players will roleplay their characters trying to have sex in a situation that isn't conducive to love-making
  • The remaining player is going to describe why it's hard to get into the sex
  • "Play until the characters are content or resigned, or until the players are."

Would it surprise you to find out that the writer, Avery Alder, is a transbian? Check out his game here!

Wick's always been a tool of a person from what I can tell. A glance at the stuff he's written when reviewed by people willing to point out the smug makes that clear. I'm not going to change my stance on him because he's out of favour with rpg.net but I am amused given how determined they were to pander to exactly that sort of demographic newer projects he's been involved with.

I'm honestly surprised that he hasn't been canceled already more than that rpg.net is turning on him now. He's clearly an asshole, and he's a straight (I think?) white dude, and he's full of machismo

The problem with this is actually one of the core problems with the Wall of the Faithless concept.

There's plenty in Faerun has god-level oompfh, up to and including granting their followers apparent miracles, that isn't actually a god as far as the technical metaphysics of the setting says. Meanwhile, you can spend your entire life being a faithful servant of Frumpberp the God of Left-Handed Blacksmiths, only for some uppity mortal to slay him, and, fuck it, you're on the Wall when you die next month.
