Back on the early to mid 2000s, Halo and Gears of War were on his prime. Rare could still give soulful games like Viva Piñata. The Fable series, while controversial, they delivered something. They were actually trying to import nippon goods on their consol with games like Lost Odyssey and Phantom Dust. Age of Empires still looked like an interesting franchise trying new things. Hell even on the clusterfuck that was the Kinect era there was still Forza Horizon, Killer Instinct and a Crackdown that wasn't literal shit.

Now we have a guy that uses the word "games" on almost every single sentence and we get:
-Age of Mobile Ads 4
-Battlecalartoads
-Halo Farcry Edition
-Gears of wars with almost no impact on gameplay.
-Lionhead kicking the bucket
-Rareware forever stuck doing their 4-player pirate MMO.
-A Crackdown where the entire budget went on Terry Crews Ads.
-An alternative edition to Minecraft with paid mods.
-The complete fuckup with the nippon market + the cancellation of Scalebound and the Phantom Dust reboot.

After failing an entire generation, even after getting rid of Kinect entirely, the "games" man creates the Game Pass as a last effort to conquer the gamers hearts, and it works since the competition alternatives are literal shit.

Many people goes and compares the Game Pass as the "Netflix of gaming", but "games" man forgets that modern gaming development is completely different than licensing years old series and movies. So to save face, "games" man buys almost every struggling western studio with an ongoing project without a long-term plan on his mind and he leaves almost every single one on auto-pilot.

Now we got games overlapping each other (Avowed, Fable reboot, Elder Scrolls 6). A new Perfect Dark that is struggling in development. A new Rare game (Everwild) that is also struggling in development. An unnecessary sequel (Outer Worlds 2). Minecraft updates that fails to deliver. Bethesda doing stupid shit still with "Anniversary" editions. A Halo plot that gets worse with each new installment. Less nippon support than PS5. The ultimate milking of the Age of Empires Series with new expansions in every installment. But at least we got Banjo-Kazooie in Smash amirite?

The questions that stays with all these fuckups is:
Is the Xbox Game Pass just a way to sugar coat everything? Will the Xbox Game Pass even last?
Is the Xbox brand as a whole even has a future?

Xbox Game Pass has been bringing in Japanese RPG's left and right. Every month we get a few JRPG's that are interesting. Final Fantasy's have all been added so you got that to play if you so desire. The Tales series WAS on there same with Monster Hunter.

Is their JRPG catalogue anything like Playstation? No. MS is trying at least and I've played a few decent ones.

Corrected for typos and informations.

The golden age of Xbox ended with Alan Wake imo, that was the last time Microsoft funded a game that was really interesting.

They fell flat on their ass with the Xbox One and have yet to recover even though they seem to be trying, but it remains to be seen if they'll succeed.

As a big fan of the Xbox and Xbox 360 it's been pretty sad to see and kind of shocking when you think about how far they've declined.

I think they also should have bought the rights to Ninja Gaiden and had Itagaki as the lead of an in house Japan studio, imagine how much that could have helped them in Japan and helped the struggling Xbox One, I think they really fucked up by not fostering more of a relationship with Itagaki.

I also think they fucked up by not making a new Crimson Skies game, what the shit is up with that?

No it's not they just pulled some off.

Bummer that Tales is gone.

I've got XGP pulled up and I'll list all the JRPG's on it as of today:

Astria Ascending (I recommend trying this one)
Boyfriend Dungeon (it's definitely not an American RPG)
Dragonquest Builders 2
Dragon Quest IX
FF 8
FF 10/X2
FF 12
FF 13
Kingdom Hearts 3
Library of RuiniaNeir: Automata
Ocotpath Traveler (I've beaten this twice)
Scarlet Nexus
Tohou Luna Nights (unsure about this one)
Yakuza 0
Yakuza 3
Yakuza 4
Yakuza 5
Yakuza 6
Yakuza Kiwami
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza Like a Dragon

American RPG's there's a bunch and not worth naming. There's 150+ games in the catalogue and for the pittance you pay per year for this membership you get tons of options and perks.

Tohou Luna Nights is a 2d platformer.

Also I didn't think it had a port of 9 or is that just a typo and they mean XI?

What was cool about Xbox back in the day is it was the gamer's gaming machine, they worked hard to cultivate a very "cool" image, it literally doesn't get any more "video game" than what Gears of War used to be, big, burly men killing the shit out of ugly monsters, fuck yeah!

But they pissed all that away with trying to chase the Wii audience with the avatars, the Kinect and it's gay games about gay cartoon animals or whatever the fuck, it still boggles my mind that they thought diluting the brand like that was wise to chase an audience that they were never going to have, corpo suits can be stupid as fucking shit, ten years later and they never recovered from that, good job!

They seem to be trying to regain that though by buying fan fav devs like Bethesda and Obsidian, but oops, we're talking two devs that already pissed away their "fan fav" status before MS bought them, fucking hilarious, imagine thinking the company that made Fallout 76 was worth spending billions of dollars on.

XBOX seems to be going more towards a gamer focused model , with game pass and xbox published games going onto pc so more gamers can play them , i can respect microsoft more than any other of the big gaming companies , yeah they make blunders but they didnt make TLOU II or make a timed exclusive digital game of 3 classics. Even if its a front microsoft does alot to improve their reach.

Minecraft Bedrock edition can't be modded so they have the "Marketplace", while it started only selling skin and texture packs it later started selling official and "community"-made worlds, some of them are complete shit.

Oh yeah, one of my nieces was telling me about paying for skins and I was like "wtf"

The game pass or some version of it will probably dominate gaming eventually because people are lazy and they will voluntarily give up all of their rights as consumers for the convenience of getting new games for "free", even if the subscription service costs them more in the long run.

Physical media is getting owned by auto-update. Discs can't hold the full size of modern games, especially ones that make no attempt at compression (cough cough Call of Duty cough cough), so if you buy a physical disk for a AAA release you still spend 30 minutes uncompressing the game and installing it onto your hard drive. After that point, the disk is just a glorified password to launch the game, and you still have to download and install a 30GB day one patch plus dozens more updates if it's not a new release. We've already lost most of our rights to games we buy because once those update servers go down we'll be stuck with the half-broken unpatched versions of games unless you already have them all installed on a multi-TB hard drive which will die one day and take your games collection with it.

tl;dr we're fucked go back to old games

Old physical games aren't much better considering many of them costs hundreds and hundreds of dollars now.

There's no good solution to long term preservation other than piracy and emulation.

Some shit that is bad about Xbox

- Not porting older games to PC, they did Halo collection and that was it.
- Not updating older pc games they have to remove shit GFWL and put them on gamepass
- No Xbox Series only games yet
- Pretty much all big games they are putting out will be shooters of some kind, they really lack variety here
- The issue can happen with being unable to delete gamepass games on Windows 10 pcs
- Been a long time since they were able to create a new ip that did just go away, Sea of Thieves and maybe Grounded are the only two from last gen.
- Xbox Series S could end up gimping some games, it is a known fact some devs like Remedy are not happy about it
-They have no idea how to name a console
-4k blu ray payback isn't great, with issues with brightness and frame rate.
-Xbox series x controller still uses disposable batteries
- Proprietary storage card for series consoles
-If you care about VR likely will never get support on the console even letting 3rd party headsets work

I mean overall wouldn't say Xbox is bad and they have been the most willing out of the big three to change which is always good.

Oh yeah I didn't mean only buy physical. If you have physical media, enjoy it, but emulation is the way to go. Hopefully modern consoles get better emulation solutions soon.
