Moscow and a number of other former USSR cities are built so the subway tunnels double as bomb shelters. Look up the Moscow Metro shelter sometime, it's interesting. I assume the subways in major cities in Ukraine are set up the same way.

Haven't really seen the Russian military in action in a long time. Be interesting to see how well their logistical chains hold up, what kind of depth they have to them, and see just how effective some of these other countries are against them. Used to be, the USSR was considered one of the premier militaries before we found out they were just as drunk, stupid, and ill-equipped as everyone else.

No offense to any Ukraine citizens here, but I think we'd be better served watching the Russian military take Ukraine than we would getting involved. Lots of data to train for the next war.

If they did what I think they did (which is follow the US playbook) they did airborne insertions like the US did in Panama, Grenada, Iraq (both times).

A couple hundred airborne troops can take the airport pretty quick even with just rifles, grenade launchers, and anti-tank/air-air rockets strapped to rucks, and dig in hard.

Either that or they did a replay of Afghanistan and hid in charter jets (maybe the Turkish ones) and came storming in, dropped in on a chute.

Another possibility is they simply drove over in civilian vehicles and stashed their weapons and uniforms in the trunk.

The London Underground's history says yes, amazing places to hide out, worth doing if you can possibly get there. Now obviously the weapons are a lot different but I think it's still better than sitting in some half-rotted Soviet apartment block.
