This is a country that has a memorial to a Waffen SS unit which was predominately made up of ethnically Ukrainian volunteers.

If anyone has an axe to grind with the Russians it would be them, one would think so anyway
In the Baltics you'll find similar monuments as due to the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact the Baltics were immediately disestablished and annexed to the USSR in 1940, after which the only way for them to fight against the Russians was by joining the Waffen SS, which served as Nazi Germany's foreign legion beyond just being the armed wing of the Nazi Party.

They don't have to invade the main island. There are smaller islands, one of which is in spitting distance of a mainland city, that could be grabbed and we would do fuck all about it in this situation. It would be a symbolic victory and would undermine both the sanctity of Taiwan's territorial integrity and the reliability of the US security umbrella even as it also fails in Europe.
Taiwan is a lot better-armed and better-allied than Ukraine is. It has the backing of not just the US, but Japan and South Korea, as well as Australia, Vietnam, India, and Indonesia, who would all war against China simply on principle alone at this point.

The CIA would take care of any lack of firepower very quickly. It's also a bit of a conundrum for Russia; they want a stable set of buffer states inside the narrowing funnel of the European Plain. If you Grozny every one of those insurgent groups you make those buffer states more resentful towards you. You could maybe do this in one or two, but Russia is going to be trying to reintegrate many of these territories. If these countries fall into your sphere of influence because you're heating their houses, and then are then slowly digested and absorbed into your polity, there are much less blood feuds to deal with compared to the alternative.
Sorry the CIA is too busy tard wrangling mystery meat sheboons for PR videos and acting as the Stasi for the Democratic party.
