President Joe Biden on Tuesday said that the United States will impose sanctions “far beyond” the ones that the United States imposed in 2014 following the annexation of the Crimean peninsula.

“This is the beginning of a Russian invasion of Ukraine,” Biden said in a White House speech, signaling a shift in his administration’s position. “We will continue to escalate sanctions if Russia escalates,” he added.

Russian elites and their family members will also soon face sanctions, Biden said, adding that “Russia will pay an even steeper price” if Moscow decides to push forward into Ukraine. Two Russian banks and Russian sovereign debt will also be sanctioned, he said.

Also in his speech, Biden said he would send more U.S. troops to the Baltic states as a defensive measure to strengthen NATO’s position in the area.

Russia shares a border with Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered troops to go into the separatist Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine after a lengthy speech in which he recognized the two regions’ independence.

Western powers decried the move and began to slap sanctions on certain Russian individuals, while Germany announced it would halt plans to go ahead with the Russia-to-Germany Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

At home, Biden is facing bipartisan pressure to take more extensive actions against Russia following Putin’s decision. However, a recent poll showed that a majority of Americans believe that sending troops to Ukraine is a “bad idea,” and a slim minority believes it’s a good one.

All 27 European Union countries unanimously agreed on an initial list of sanctions targeting Russian authorities, said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, and EU foreign affairs head Josep Borell claimed the package “will hurt Russia … a lot.”

Earlier Tuesday, Borell asserted that Russian troops have already entered the Donbas region, which comprises Donetsk and Lugansk, which are under the control of pro-Russia groups since 2014.

And on Tuesday, the Russian Parliament approved a Putin-back plan to use military force outside of Russia’s borders as Putin further said that Russia confirmed it would recognize the expanded borders of Lugansk and Donetsk.

“We recognized the states,” the Russian president said. “That means we recognized all of their fundamental documents, including the constitution, where it is written that their [borders] are the territories at the time the two regions were part of Ukraine.”

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Putin said that Ukraine is “not interested in peaceful solutions” and that “every day, they are amassing troops in the Donbas.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday morning again downplayed the prospect of a Russian invasion and proclaimed: “There will be no war.”

“There will not be an all-out war against Ukraine, and there will not be a broad escalation from Russia. If there is, then we will put Ukraine on a war footing,” he said in a televised address.

The White House began to signal that they would shift their own position on whether it’s the start of an invasion.

“We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine,” said Jon Finer, the White House deputy national security adviser in public remarks. “An invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”

For weeks, Western governments have been claiming Moscow would invade its neighbor after Russia gathered some 150,000 troops along the countries’ borders. They alleged that the Kremlin would attempt to come up with a pretext to attack, while some officials on Monday said Putin’s speech recognizing the two regions was just that.

But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told reporters Tuesday that Russia’s “latest invasion” of Ukraine is threatening stability in the region, but he asserted that Putin can “still avoid a full blown, tragic war of choice.”

Had a thought:
- Biden tells CCP Russia is building up troops near Ukraine
- CCP tells Russia about US intel, probably also tells Russia "go right ahead, we'll quietly back you bros"
- Putin rolls Ukraine
- Biden itching for war because he's extremely unpopular and probably literally believes it's still the 80s and he's standing off with the USSR because dementia

Now, let's say Putin does test his luck past Ukraine and NATO requires a notable troop response to deter further aggression. What does that leave wide open for China? Does it begin with T and end with aiwan?

Stay tuned for the next episode of American Hegemony Crumbles Under Pantshitting Imbecile.
China is never taking back Taiwan, that's a pipedream, their military is one of the worst in the world, their aircraft carriers are a joke, their navy is poorly trained & untested, they'd be assailing a natural fortress belonging to the world's computer chip manufacturer, which most assuredly have better military equipment because they're not a clownshow Communist nation like China. Communist China has only been in one serious conflict & they had to resort to human wave tactics just to hold ground in Korea.

It's never happening.

Ukrainian serviceman blows himself up in 'heroic act' to stop Russian tanks: military

Vitaliy Skakun Volodymyrovych was a Marine and engineer. He was called upon to take out the Henichny Road Bridge, in the Kherson region. Once it was downed, he was unable to escape the blast in time, according to public posts by Ukrainian officials.

Shots Fired As Ukrainians Try To Cram Onto Evacuation Trains

Crowds were so large that not everyone could get on the trains from the capital to the western city of Lviv. When a train drew up at a platform, people rushed to the doors, hoping to get on board. The guards fired several shots with blanks to disperse the crowd after screams broke out.

Interesting. But as the story said, NOT a good thing for the loved ones of the dead soldiers. Even the Japanese during World War II tried to bring the ashes of dead soldiers back to Japan. Putin really needs to consider the reaction of families. Something tells me he's going to have rather more dead troops than he expected. And he already has anti-war demonstrations in Russia. Let the Ukraine get in a few more shots into Russia itself and things could really go south in that respect.

Been busy this morning, haven't looked at the latest, but have been thinking about things..

First, Putin is in trouble. Believe he expected Ukraine to fold like a house of cards. Instead, the world now knows of Ukrainian bravery.

The border guards who died defiantly on that island take their places alongside the brave Poles who held out at the Westerplatte at the start of World War II, and the brave Soviet troops who held out at the Brest fortress far, far longer than the Nazis expected at the start of Operation Barbarossa. If you don't know what I am talking about, look it up. Russian troops are telling the world they don't know why they are in the Ukraine. Personally, that's the last thing I'd want my troops to say. At least give some reason, such as protecting Russians in the country, but clueless doesn't make it here.

Ukraine keeps fighting. They keep fighting back, counterattack as they can. Every day Ukraine keeps fighting is a loss for Putin. Will the Russians eventually win? But their win will be a Pyrrhic victory at best. Would remind me of my namesake's victory over Finland in 1940. Russia has done great damage to itself internationally. They're galvanizing NATO into action, possibly far-reaching action. Bet NATO air forces are flying combat air patrols over the Baltics and eastern Poland. Bet NATO air defense weaponry in those areas is at what I would call readiness condition one. Bet a lot of things are happening in a bunch of places within NATO countries.

Some other observations...Putin is a one-man show. It's him, and that's basically it. He doesn't seem to have any ideological heirs. Maybe he doesn't care. "Apres moi, le deluge." Have noticed the weather's been pretty good for this time of year. Time for General Winter to help the Ukrainians out some. Some Ukrainians are asking for a NATO no-fly zone over Ukraine. Sorry, no can do. Ukraine is NOT a member of NATO. At best, NATO could provide supplies and weapons to Ukraine, help refugees coming out of the country.

If I was Putin, I'd declare victory now and go home. He had better remember the enemy still has a vote.

It looks like the Russians are getting bogged down in a prolonged conflict, this shit should've been over in 48 hours for Putin to score a victory, the more time he spends on this shit the more compounding interest he accrues on that time.

This is starting to look less like Germany Vs Poland and more like Germany Vs the UK.
The war has been going for less than two days and the Russians are already sieging the capital.

Speaking of which, new map just dropped:

Zelensky asks Israeli prime minister to mediate Putin talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has asked Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett to mediate talks with Vladimir Putin, a person familiar with the matter said.

The effort to broach a conversation was first reported by the Kann public broadcaster.

Zelensky, who is Jewish, may be counting on Israel’s strategic partnership with Putin in Syria and elsewhere to allow for a serious mediation at a time when Russian forces are advancing on the Ukrainian capital.

But the person familiar with the outreach said it was unclear if Bennett would intervene. Israel has been less than fulsome in its condemnation of Russia’s aggression, sending aid to Ukraine’s Jewish population.

While they be fellow members of the tribe, Israel isn't going too do much.

They have a good relationship with Putin and Russia, who for whatever reason apparently loves the Jews, and thinks their Soviet era repression was a major mistake. Between that and needing Russian cooperation bombing the Syrian's, Israel ain't rocking the boat to help out Zelensky.

Edit: Putin loves the Jews, just to clear

Which sucks for Ukraine, because the Harop loitering munition is scary fucking effective against prosecuting everything from trucks to tanks and even equipment like Pantysir, Iskander, and the S-300/400.

I'm no warmonger, but if they dropped a space station on England I'd find it pretty funny as that would be entering all kinds of levels of retarded hilarity. Imagine having to be the nation that got orbitaled by the equivalent of space car crash because two nations of squatting schizo vodka zombies picked a fight with one another.

Russia Selling Oil at Deep Discount Following Ukraine Invasion, Traders Wary of Sanctions

Russia’s crude oil is being sold at record discount rates as the country faces tough sanctions from Western nations following its invasion of neighboring Ukraine, but traders have remained cautious and stepped back from buying the discounted fuel.

Moscow is offering Urals crude oil at a discount of $11.60 per barrel below Dated Brent, the deepest such discount in 11 years according to data compiled by Bloomberg. Dated Brent is a marker for physical oil transactions. No bids were offered while a large tender for Urals crude ended up not getting sold. Trafigura Group and the trading arm of Lukoil PJSC were earlier offering Urals crude at a $6.30 per barrel discount.

“Russia-U.S. tensions over Ukraine have contributed to the collapse in Urals differentials,” consultant Facts Global Energy wrote in a note. “It seems that after many European refiners went on a Urals buying spree in December/January, those that have a choice are now shying away from Urals.” Multiple oil traders, oil tanker companies, and shipbrokers have temporarily ceased their Russia-related activity.

Countries like the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and the EU region have all announced sanctions against Russia. More sanctions will possibly be announced in the coming days. Oil traders are choosing to avoid trading in Russian crude, fearful they might face the consequences of violating sanctions.

Igho Sanomi, founder of energy trading company Taleveras, is expecting restrictions against Russia to be “very deep,” according to WSJ. “We’re expecting most European banks will pull out of financing any commodities from Russia. Letters of credit are being stopped, financing in general toward Russian commodities is being stopped,” he said.

One major refiner from Europe told the media outlet that though they are a “big buyer” of Urals crude, they stopped buying about a month back.

Even if the United States does not impose any full-scale sanctions, European buyers will likely avoid Russian crude as long as tensions remain, according to oil analyst Alex Kavouris.

“I hear that refiners are stepping back from buying Urals, and many shipowners are saying they are unsure if they will call at Russian ports—Black Sea or Baltic,” a European refinery buyer said to S&P Global. One trader from the Middle East told the agency that such “extreme events” do not happen very often.

Upward pressure on Urals differentials also comes from the fear of possible disruption to shipping activity in the Black Sea. Some shipowners are said to be extremely cautious about traveling to terminals in the region.

Freight rates from the Baltic Sea region have soared. The daily earnings of tankers carrying 100,000 tons of Urals crude oil from the Baltic Sea to Europe have soared by roughly 800 percent, indicating how very few shippers are willing to transport cargoes from Russia.

While traders are shying away from Russian Urals, demand for crude oil from other parts of the world is rising, with places like the Middle East, West Africa, and Brazil standing to gain. Freight rates rose by 12 percent for cargoes from the Persian Gulf to the U.S. Gulf Coast on Thursday when compared to the day before.

US isn't actually sanctioning the oil directly:

New Sanctions on Russia Don’t Block Russian Oil and Gas

New U.S. sanctions released on Feb. 24, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, don’t directly block Russian oil and gas imports.

“American oil and gas companies should not—should not—exploit this moment to hike their prices to raise profits,” U.S. President Joe Biden said in a televised speech announcing the sanctions. “In our sanctions package, we specifically designed [it] to allow energy payments to continue. We are closely monitoring energy supplies for any disruption. We’ve been coordinating with major oil-producing and [oil] consuming countries toward our common interest to secure global energy supplies.”

Biden noted that the United States was prepared to release more oil from its strategic petroleum reserves “as conditions warrant.”

The U.S. measures, detailed in a White House statement, target various Russian financial institutions. They also encompass financial restrictions on “Russian elites and their family members,” along with limits on debt and equity for Russian energy firms, including the state-controlled firm Gazprom and its subsidiary, Gazprom Neft, as well as the pipeline firm Transneft.

The sanctions don’t target Rosneft, a Russian integrated energy firm.

In his speech, Biden said his administration is using “every tool at our disposal” to limit the effect on gas prices, but noted that gasoline prices for Americans are likely to be affected by the sanctions.

Similar sanctions from the European Unioin, released on Feb. 23, target 351 State Duma members who voted to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. The EU sanctions also ban imports from areas of Donetsk and Luhansk that aren’t under Ukrainian control.

In addition, those sanctions limit EU financing to Russia.

“The Council decided to introduce a sectoral prohibition to finance the Russian Federation, its government, and Central Bank,” the EU said in a statement. “By restraining the ability of the Russian state and government to access the EU’s capital, and financial markets and services, the EU aims to limit the financing of escalatory and aggressive policies.”

The Epoch Times has reached out to the EU regarding its sanctions and their intended effect on the Russian energy industry.

An unnamed Biden administration insider told Politico that energy prices are influencing the administration’s actions against Russia.

Ukrainian officials have been advocating for tough sanctions on Russia.

“Right now, Putin is plunging Europe into its darkest time since 1939. Any government hoping to sit this out is naive. Don’t repeat mistakes of the past. Hit Russia with severe sanctions now. Help Ukraine with military and financial support. Together we can #StopRussianAggression,” Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba, wrote on Twitter on Feb. 24.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on Twitter on Feb. 24 that “a package of additional tough sanctions against Russia from the EU is approaching. Discussed all the details with [French President Emmanuel Macron]. We demand the disconnection of Russia from SWIFT, the introduction of a no-fly zone over Ukraine, and other effective steps to stop the aggressor.”

The United States has become a major consumer of Russian oil. Statistics from the Energy Information Administration show that the United States imported more than 17.8 million barrels of Russian oil in November 2021, the last month for which statistics are available.

The EU relies on Russia for up to 40 percent of its gas.

“Biden’s actions on no Russian export limits keeps Russian barrels in the market, and a lid on prices by not cutting 9 million barrels out of the stack,” Paul Copello, president of IIR Energy, said in an email to The Epoch Times. “That decreases the probability of a supply disruption from the West banning purchases of oil and natural gas into Europe or elsewhere, and is the main reason that oil sold off from its highs today.”

I highly doubt that Russia will care about sanctions since they have an upper hand with their gas monopoly. Nobody wants to touch that with a ten foot pole, afraid of causing some poor euros getting uppity they're personally affected by war.

Sanctions are worth nothing if nobody is willing to actually sanction the cornerstone of the offending government's controlling political/economic interest.

And people wonder why we didn't bomb the Saudis after learning they funded Al Q and had ties to 9/11, this is why.

Ukraine says it has inflicted one of Russia's heaviest ever day of losses with more than 1,000 casualties: Putin's losses now stand at 2,800 troops, 80 tanks and 516 armoured vehicles as fightback continues

  • Ukrainian forces claimed on Friday to have destroyed part of an airfield in south Russia in missile strike Friday
  • Kyiv's forces have shot out seven Russian helicopters, destroyed at least 80 tanks, blitzed up to 10 fighter jets
  • Ukraine military far inferior to its Russian counterpart with an air defence system dating back to the Soviet era
  • NATO and US have made it clear that no troops will be sent and left Ukraine military to hold off assault alone
Ukrainian forces claimed today to have inflicted one of Russia's heaviest ever day of losses with more than 1,000 casualties.

It comes as new totals by Kyiv's defence ministry put President Vladimir Putin's losses at 2,800 troops, 80 tanks, 516 armoured vehicles, 10 airplanes and seven helicopters.

Russian officials have made similar claims - that Moscow has captured more than 160 troops; destroyed 74 Ukrainian military ground facilities; downed five fighter jets and one helicopter; and destroyed 18 tanks and other armoured vehicles.

Meanwhile Ukrainian forces earlier today claimed to have hit an airfield in Millerovo in Rostov, southern Russia, destroying at least one of Moscow's Su-30SM fighter jets.

Footage posted online purported to show the tail end of a missile strike on the Russian military's airbase around 10am local time (8am GMT) with several buildings on the site engulfed in flames.

At least 37 Ukrainians, among them several civilians, have been killed and hundreds more injured in fighting in the past 24 hours.

Russian troops were by this afternoon bearing down on the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv after advancing from Chernobyl, less than 60 miles north of the city, this morning.

Ukrainian troops tasked with the city's defence began setting up defensive positions across highways, on bridges and on street corners in preparation for what seemed set become a bloody street-to-street fight over the weekend.

Kyiv's military, which was left to face Moscow alone after NATO and the US confirmed they would not put boots in the ground, is far inferior to its Russian counterpart with an air defense system and air force dating back to the Soviet era.

Few expect Ukraine to emerge victorious from what is almost certain to be a prolonged, bloody, and vicious war - but so far, Kyiv's forces have managed to inflict heavy losses on Putin's troops.

Helicopters, jets and planes

Ukrainian forces downed a Russian fighter jet over Kyiv early on Friday and later hit an airfield in Millerovo in Rostov, southern Russia, destroying at least one Su-30SM around 10am local time (8am GMT).

Meanwhile by late Thursday forces had claimed to have shot down at least six helicopters, including four Russian KA-52 Alligator attack helicopters during a battle for Gostomel air base on Thursday. A fifth helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing at the field under heavy fire.

Just after midday on Thursday, the skies over Kyiv swarmed with a squadron of 20 Russian helicopters which pounded the air base's runway.

But Ukrainian ground forces launched a fight-back, moving in to retake the air field as jets streaking over the city, shooting down the Russian helicopters.

The attack underlined just how close the invaders were to the capital. Soon after, the distant roar of fighter jets high above the city stoked another wave of panic.

The Ukrainians also reported their MiG jets shot down at least one Mi-8 helicopter.

Ukrainian forces also claimed to have shot down six Russian jets sky over the eastern Donbass region while another plane appeared to fall from the skies near the capital.

Shortly after 7pm GMT on Tuesday, Russia's defence ministry said a Russian Antonov An-26 transport plane carrying military equipment crashed in its southern Voronezh region near Ukraine, killing all crew members on board.

'During a planned flight to transport military equipment, an An-26 aircraft of the Russian aerospace forces crashed,' the defence ministry said in a statement carried by Russian news agencies.

'The crew died,' the statement said, without providing any details.

The defence ministry blamed equipment failure for the crash, which it said had not caused any destruction on the ground.

A defence ministry spokesman, speaking to AFP, confirmed the crash but declined to say how many crew members had been killed.

An-26 planes carry up to six crew members and up to 38 military personnel. Overall, the Ukrainian armed forces claimed to have shot down five aircraft and six helicopters.

Tanks

Ukrainian forces destroyed dozens of Russian tanks along the eastern and northern borders by the end of the day on Thursday, adding two more and a fighting vehicle in Trohizbenko to the tally early on Friday.

According to the country's defence ministry, the figure was higher than 30 by the end of Thursday. They also claimed to have destroyed 'up to' 130 armoured combat vehicles.

Ukrainian forces put up a stiff resistance around Kharkiv where multiple Russian tanks and armoured vehicles were pictured destroyed - with bodies lying in the streets.

Later, another BMP fighting vehicle was captured, along with the crew of four Russian soldiers, in the same region in eastern Ukraine.

And around 2pm local time (12pm GMT) the Ukrainian military said troops had destroyed five armoured transport vehicles and a car during fighting at the Vistupovich-Rudnya border point between Ukraine and Belarus.

A further 15 T-72 tanks were destroyed or damaged by the Ukrainian forces using the Javelin PTRK, an American anti-tank missile, nearly Glukhov in the country's east late this afternoon.

In other incidents, tank-busting rocket launchers donated by Britain were said to have destroyed Russian tanks, while Javelin missiles gifted by Sweden destroyed a column of enemy vehicles.

Troops

Dozens of Russian troops have been captured by Ukrainian forces, Kyiv's ministry of defence has claimed. Britain's Ministry of Defence put Moscow's losses around 450, though it was not clear if that included captured or dead soldiers.

Videos posted by the Ukrainian MoD early on Friday purported to show at least nine captured Russian soldiers.

Several Russian troops videoed by their captors have claimed they believed they were conducting training exercises in the border regions and did not know they were being sent to invade Ukraine.

The claim was echoed by the brigade commander of the 74th brigade of motorcycle rifles, believed to be a reconnaissance platoon made up of 20 to 50 soldiers, who allegedly surrendered to Ukrainian forces during fighting on Thursday.

Commander Konstantin Buynichev is said to have claimed he only learned of the invasion on Wednesday and believed they were returning home.

He allegedly said: 'Nobody thought that we were going to kill. We were not going to fight – we were collecting information.'

The announcement of Buynichev and his troops' capture was posted by the Ukrainian MoD with a picture of a the commander with a bandaged arm and wearing a bloodied uniform which appeared to say 'Russian Army'.

Early Thursday, Ukrainian forces said they had captured two Russian soldiers, identified as Rafik Rakhmankulov, 19 and Mgomd Mgomdov, 26, from Kizilyurt, along with a cache of weapons and knives during fighting outside Kharkiv, in the east of Ukraine.

A further four Russian soldiers, the crew of a BMP fighting vehicle, were captured by Ukrainian forces near Luhansk on Thursday morning.

They were pictured lying face-down with their jackets pulled over their heads after being captured by Kyiv's troops.

Ukrainian service members were also pictured on Thursday detaining troops from the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic after they were captured during an attack on the town of Schast'ye in the morning.

Estimates of dead and injured were almost non-existent as of early afternoon but one Ukrainian official put the Russian death toll at around 50.

Russian claims

Russia claimed on Friday that more than 160 Ukrainian soldiers had surrendered to Moscow's troops.

The Russian Ministry of Defence said the troops were of 'different security structures', but it was not clear what this meant and the statement did not provide details.

At least 11 of the troops reportedly laid down their weapons during fighting in a city in the country's south known to Ukrainians as Mykolaiv, and to Russians as Nikolaev.

Among the troops were at least 10 soldiers in Volnovakha in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic who were captured by pro-Russian rebels in the area.

Moscow claimed the soldiers would be 'returned to their families' after the situation was 'stabilised'.

Russia has also claimed strikes launched by its military yesterday had destroyed 74 Ukrainian military ground facilities, 11 airfields, three command posts and 18 radar stations controlling Kyiv's anti-aircraft batteries.

Later reports claimed Moscow had downed one of Ukraine's helicopters, five fighter jets and five drone aircraft and destroyed 18 tanks and other armored vehicles, seven flashlight jet systems, 41 units of special military vehicle equipment and five warships.

EXCLUSIVE: I have been given a copy of document issued today by Russian Ministry of Health. It indicates Russia is anticipating a massive medical emergency & has ordered health organisations to immediately identify medical staff ready to relocate & work.

The document from Russian Ministry of Health is signed by deputy health minister and dated today 25 February. It asks medical organisations to be ready ‘to be promptly involved in activities aimed at saving lives & preserving the health of people in Russia.’

Russian medical institutions have been ordered by Health Ministry to send a list no later than 18:00 (90 mins ago) to deputy health minister of ‘medical specialists and medical workers…indicating their full name, place of work, positions & contact details.’

The document from the Russian Ministry of Health makes it clear these medics will be deployed somewhere as ‘reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses, as well as payment of labour is expected from funds from the Federal Centre of Medical Disasters.’

The letter has a long list of medics it is looking for: trauma, heart, maxillofacial and paediatric surgeons, anaesthetists, radiologists, nurses (including for operating room) and infectious disease specialists.

Document from Ministry of Health shows Russia is clearly preparing for a major medical event where doctors have to be drafted from across the country. The letter is signed by Deputy Health Minister Plutnitsky.

This order from Russian Ministry of Health has been issued as Russian forces attempt to advance on Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine.

I understand doctors were gathered together yesterday and told to ‘get ready.’ Today, the document from the Russian Health Ministry arrived. I am told this is highly unusual and almost unprecedented.

A Ukrainian military official has just told me this document could indicate medics are being drafted to assist with casualties from Russia’s invasion in Ukraine. The official said one reading of the document is that Russia did not expect a level of resistance from Ukraine.

This would tally with reports from a senior US defence official who said today ‘there is greater resistance by Ukrainians than the Russians expected,’ and that Russia is not moving on Kyiv as fast as they anticipated and that Russia may have lost a ‘little bit of their momentum.’

Exclusive Russian Ministry of Health document indicates how Russia is preparing for an event with mass casualties & is calling up doctors, inc trauma surgeons. Ukraine military official believes it may suggest Russia has met resistance in Ukraine assault.

This document does not refer to Ukraine and references ‘saving lives...in Russia.' I have asked Russian officials if it is true Russia is preparing for a mass casualty event and if this is because Russia has met more resistance than anticipated in Ukraine. Waiting for response.

Ukrainian military official told me they think the document 'clearly demonstrates Russians didn't expect to face such a level of resistance & losses. They wanted to make a blitzkrieg operation & should have finished it by now, but they are still far from achieving their goals.'

Expressing concern, the Ukrainian military official told me one interpretation of the document issued to medical organisations by the Russian Ministry of Health could be that 'Putin has the intention to go until the end, despite huge losses of personnel.'

Despite the strength of international sanctions, there is concern that they will not deter President Putin from invading Ukraine. The preparations by Russia to recruit medical staff are being interpreted as a sign that this conflict could be very bloody.

Germany open to cutting Russia off SWIFT but must weigh consequences - fin min

Germany is open to cutting Russia off the SWIFT global interbank payment system but must calculate the consequences for its economy first, Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Friday.

“We are open, but you have to know what you’re doing,” Lindner told journalists after a meeting of the European Economic and Financial Affairs Council in Paris to discuss sanctions against Moscow after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Lindner said Europe must step up its sanctions against Russia, adding that the sanctions should include President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Italy open to banning Russia from SWIFT system -foreign minister

Italy would not veto proposals to ban Russia from the SWIFT global interbank payment system, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said on Friday.

"There is no veto", Di Maio told reporters in Brussels answering a question on the issue, adding Rome will continue working in unison with European Union partners on sanctions.

Speak of the devil... Why the hell does he think its a good idea to antagonize the fins? This isnt 1945.
Putin is delusional and brainstuck in the days of the USSR & he desperately wants to make his bid to be the new global superpower before he dies. I wouldn't be surprised at this point if he had been recently diagnosed with cancer and threw out the pretense of cloak & dagger tactics because of it.
