The C64 also had instant loading carts, didn't it? I could swear it did. I remember I had some carts for it, but tapes/diskettes were way more common. That was my "budget" gaming system in the early 90s. Some stores actually sold RAZOR etc. cracked games in stores, if the sellers trusted you enough to show you their secret tray they had under the table. They were dirt cheap, but came with no box or manual.

That said: I miss TotalBiscuit. He was a tool, but his reviews were great and as far as I recall he didn't bring politics into them. Sad to think that the "cool" Jim Sterling is just as dead, as he did a total 180° turn over the past 5 years or so, where he went from edgy reviewer with some hot takes to this mess of a being he is now.

It's a speaking style. I was cursed with it until I had to force myself to unlearn it when working with kids. It was always just a way to run higher emphasis on something without speaking louder.
So these people basically never had to go professional is what I guess. I notice myself slip back into it when online and I always cringe when I catch myself doing it.

I watched it pretty regularly from 2013-2017, but solely because the content was decently long, monotonous, and played FF9 music. I never liked what he said or cared for his stance, he was always a commie to me, but I needed background noise as I played a game late at night. Most of my YouTube content is ad blocked background noise, and I have no fondness for anyone. On YouTube. But Jim was one of the more consistent ones. I only really stop listening to someone’s background noise when they get too annoying. Jim sent annoying hard in 2018 and just got worse and worse.
Now I only keep my sub so I can see what the “big controversy of the week” was. I don’t click the video, I just see the thumbnail and title.
You can accurately predict everything he will say just off those alone, he’s that predictable at this point.

I kinda wanna be part of his sub bleed, but I’m never watching his content anyway so I keep it

It's possible, homebrew can do it. The problem is there wasn't a financial justification for such when you could use the cheaper format of tapes and disks instead. That and you can't easily distribute hobbyist work or cracked software on cartridges compared to floppies and tape.

I almost feel bad. Jim was always a (fat) contrarian, and he knew that it was a good schtick to get people to engage with your videos by going against the popular opinion, and could actually make a good point here or there by examining the opposite viewpoint. His videos about industry politics and problems were also fairly informative. His personal politics were a clown fiesta but before it was easy to separate him from his critiques.
Now he's just a washed-up hack that has to make and defend the worst possible takes for views. It's just so tiresome. He doesn't even pretend to like or play games anymore- for all the flaws Cyberpunk 2077 had, his biggest complaint was that it was... transphobic. He admitted to not even having played it. I watched him a little when he was working for The Escapist but it's only been downhill from there.

I'm not as well versed in this thread as others, but can Jim seriously not afford a corset that costs more than $20? How fucked are her finances at this point? I make a lot less than the average 500K-1mill sub YouTuber and I can still afford a properly sized one. Fuck, there are a million DIY videos that can show you how to make one from upholstery fabric and zip ties.

Sorry, I just get the feeling that Jim would indulge way more financially in her costuming if she could. Mostly because she has in the past.
