Bad webcomics

Personally, if I had to choose one comic/author to hate, it would be Least I Could Do/Ryan Sohmer. Aside from the grave sin of being completely unfunny, Sohmer constantly barks his opinions through every medium available to him and won't hesitate to double-down at the slightest hint of disagreement.
What's crazy is he's been doing this webcomic since 2003 and it's still the same old shit. Here's the first comic he's ever done.

And here's a random one I picked off of the calendar.

Also here's what ryan sohmers looks like.

He also makes another webcomic that is called "looking for group" made by the same artist that is pretty much trying to cash in on the nerd market while I suppose LICD is trying to cash in on the douchebag market.

The punchline is always violence and there are always way too many words.

No mention of TwoKinds? The amount of autism and drama surrounding that comic is nothing short of astonishing.

I'm surprised Leoian hasn't had a thread here. He's an autistic otherkin who thinks he's a hermaphrodite anthro cheetah and married to TwoKinds' main character, who is also his sister.

Edit: forgot he had an ED page.

QC and Alice Grove fill me with rage. Such shitty, shitty art, badly written, emasculated and unfunny stories, constant white knighting and pandering to the 15 year old Tumblrina crowd, and just plain all-around shitty in every other way. A monument to tedium, zero effort, and mediocrity. And yet, Jeph Jacques makes serious bank. He actually makes a living off of the drivel he churns out. The only thing in his favor is that he updates regularly, I guess, but when you put zero effort into your art, it's not hard to crank the stuff out.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this piece of shit: Morning Glory. This is so shitty and repellent that even its ED article describes it as "morally reprehensible."

Beyond that, it is just fucking stupid. Its idea of a punchline is just saying "nigger." It's all cut and pasted art with incompetent, childlike scrawling to fill it in, and tries harder than anything you've ever seen.

This thing went on a couple years and, amazingly, never got any better, maintaining a history of complete shit. This is a semi-complete archive of this trash.

I suppose if it has any place in history, it was just one of the really early absolute shit webcomics, before that became the norm. I'll note it's actually so old it doesn't even have an entry on Bad Webcomics.

Who here remembers Electric R.etard? Now that was an especially abhorrent webcomic.

Created by white supremacist, self-confessed pedophile, and former Something Awful user Eric "Sigvatr" Vaughn.

Time to remind everyone about Kit n' Kay Boodle, the furry webcomic that looks at life in a town where nudity is the law and public sex is mandatory. The fact that it isn't depicted as some kind of gritty, savage and lawless yiff-nightmare where the infrastructure has all but crumbled makes things all that more unsettling. Think Sodom and Gomorrah via Walt Disney.

EDIT: Apparently, comicgenesis hates image linking. That's the best theory I can come up with. Already spent enough time than I needed to on that site. More time than anyone needs.

Might just be me (or my browser) but those links just go to white pages.

Single Asian Female. Although the comic hasn't updated in years, it would fit right into Tumblr. Basically the gist is all white people, especially white men, are evil and pray onto Asians, especially Asian women. I guess the original point of the comic was to talk about racism Asian Americans face which, under the right writer, could be interesting. But the author fails at that, especially since the protagonist sounds more like a whiny brat than someone who's simply pointing out that racism exist.

Most of the issues are about how any white guy who dates an Asian woman is just has a creepy yellow fever fetish and Asian women should date within their race instead. Another interesting fact is the author is an Asian male. So we can deduce that he used a female avatar so people wouldn't suspect that he wasn't some guy who was pissed that all the white JERKS were stealing all his potential TRUE and HONEST Asian sweethearts from him. But it's still pretty obvious.

Don't forget that everyone in the comic is naked and the mayor of the town was apparent based on the author's girlfriend's mother. And I think the mayor, the author's avatar, and his girlfriend's avatar all have a threeway. Not creepy in the slightest.

So that comic you linked completely conflicts with their complaints that white guys prey on asian girls..Is the author just that retarded that they can't stick to their own message?

I really, really shouldn't have gone through all of his comics. I'm going to soak my head in bleach, now.

Ah yes, Ryan Sohmer. I briefly followed his work during my Impressionable Teenage Years(TM), but it never really drew me in, and I eventually stopped altogether. I'm glad, as reading up on him reveals that he is a colossal dick. He's not even a creative or inventive dick, but the infuriatingly smug 'aww, you're still young enough to think your opinion counts, how cute!' kind of dick that is firmly convinced that he pisses gold and shits diamonds. I read a bunch of his blogs back in the day, and it was obvious even to a young mind how astonishingly full of himself he is. The main character of LICD is a self-insert, and he has the kind of cringe-worthy attitude to sex that not even a twelve-year-old who just learned what the word 'boners' meant would find amusing.

The worst part for me is that he treats his artist like shit, jokes about it, and takes pride in it.

(Keep in mind that I believe the artist was poor or homeless from what I've heard)

Story time: I went to a Ryan Sohmer Q&A panel while I was at a convention about a year or two ago.

Hey, I was bored, and knowing the guy's reputation, I figured there might be some laughs to be had.

Both him and Lar were there, but it was mostly Ryan talking. It was advertised as a Looking For Group panel (which is slightly better than LICD because it's harder for Ryan to inject his shitty opinions into a generic boring fantasy setting), but a few people asked questions about LICD as well.

It was kind of uneventful, honestly, aside from a few things that stick out in my mind:

- Ryan really, really wants to do a Looking For Group animated series. Apparently he hasn't learned anything from his last two animated trainwrecks. (I seem to recall hearing something about a failed Kickstarter for that at some point?)
- Ryan is pretty insistent that Rayne Summers is not Ryan Sohmer's author avatar. :story:
- The panel was only set to run for I think about 45 minutes but they ran out of shit to talk about, and the audience ran out of questions to ask. So for the last ten minutes, the two of them started telling stories about shit Ryan and his buddies have done while drunk. I'm somehow not joking.

So there's that.

The other problem is Ryan Sohmer cock-blocks a lot of his own stories from anything interesting. We'll take a story line where Rahne has to work with a co-worker he doesn't get along with for a charity dinner for the homeless. After acting like a lazy brat who drove his partner away and being in the hospital for a few days, he should've had an unfinished product or massive rush job to get it dune. But instead of having Rahne be fired/demoted and face the consequences for his irresponsibility, be makes the best presentation ever and arrogantly puts his co-worker in her place that she asks for his forgiveness. As for Looking For Group, it's a bit of a Warcraft rip-off and Richard is only entertaining in small doses. Otherwise his schtick gets old really fast.

Jay Naylor: That man has issues, especially in the sexual department. For a man who rants against women, he had no problem having a male character (by other males) get drugged until his brain is mush, forced to change his gender and used as a sex toy and baby oven.

Girl Genius: In the early days, it had some really great backgrounds, but he sucks at drawing people.

Candi: Ugly art from a creator who refuses to improve her craft (and is getting worse), immature and selfish characters and boring plots.

No mention of Teahouse yet?

This shit falls into every yaoi cliche and then some. The characters are obnoxious manchildren with no likable qualities, the writing is on a par with that of a terrible soap opera, and one of the main characters has a creepy incest obsession with his twin sister. The story is apparently set during the Victorian period, yet has a character who wears piercings and punk attire.

The art is actually pretty good, especially compared to some of the other examples shown here. However, it's often too saturated and can be eye-straining to some people.

My absolute favorite moment in this comic is the unintentional hilarity of this scene. What could be more romantic than butt plugs?

Also, one of the creators has worked on the Adventure Time comics.

For a while, I fell under its spell. The colors were more subtle in the earlier stuff and it looked gorgeous. In a messed-up way, I was curious how far the story could fall after most of the characters got worse. (I did like Gildar, though.)
