Is this even a thing? I've never heard of this happening in situations where it would be beneficial, like for example a violent autistic person who tries to drop kick the nurses. Those people just get restrained. But a 19 year old girl (definitely a girl, not an adult woman) with a phobia gets benzos and anesthesia? Why can't they just have her pop a xanax before going in?
It’s for sure a thing for people with low functioning autism or other developmental disabilities. It can be kind of a Herculean effort for a caregiver to coordinate medical providers to hop in and do their thing all at the same day and time when the kid is put under, but you can at least get an MRI or CT and grab blood work at the same time. Maybe an EEG or EKG if needed. The bigger problem is getting them sedated in the first place.

Autistic kid needs to go to the ER? Get some ketamine before stitching him up.

Also, Autistic people are knocked out for dental work all the time. How else could you do it? The person just needs to be cleared for anesthesia first with a doctor visit.

Hopefully I've only heard the horror stories then where multiple medical staff are needed to restrain an autistic and/or otherwise disabled person for simple things, I would hope that if this is an option it's available everywhere it can be. Also completely understand and am sympathetic to normal people who need some light sedation for an MRI, CT, or some other procedure like that.
But sedatives and anesthesia, being completely knocked out, for someone whose only issue is a fear of hospitals sounds like extreme overkill. It's not like adverse reactions to sedatives or anesthesia happen and can be traumatizing (real medical trauma, not the munchie version) and make the issues even more severe in the future, right?

I decided to go through the deleted comments on the final Ashley post since I noticed a lot of comments mysteriously disappeared and I simply love the drama from infighting. Here are the highlights. Sorry about the double-post, I tried to hold out until someone else commented so I didn't add a bunch of irrelevant shit to the reply I left.

IF mod QueenieB33 confirms that this is only so reddit doesn't nuke their sub like it has with other munchie-related snark subs, and that the mods have to claim it is not a snark sub. Other mod removes QueenieB33's comment too - I get the feeling they probably do not like her much, since she isn't the one I usually see making any announcements or representing the mod group.

Removed comment about the drama between Illnessfakers, EuthGoneWild, and the mod catetemybrains. Apparently she was removing content from IF and posting it on EGW? Unsurprising. In fact, any comment referencing EGW, even if it wasn't by name and simply "the other sub that just got banned", was deleted. Hmm.

Commenter says "can't we just admit we're a snark sub and not benefitting society?", mods delete it instead of saying no.

Qualified people saying that being clinically obese is bad for your health? Deleted.

Catetemybrains posted a follow-up comment, which received some backlash.

Everyone who compliments and sucks up gets a thank you and a heart emoji, valid criticism gets ignored. TLDR: Random user says "well it's not your job, stop guilt tripping people lol" and Catete gets mad. u/nurse_kanye points out that eventually all the subjects will be banned for bullying and the mods should do their job, Cat whines, Kanye says "lol I would rather hear from MBIresearch." MBIR appears, goes on a huge rant that amounts to Reddit TOS sucks and the mods are all overwhelmed and busy people (fair point), but Cat is wonderful and beautiful and this is unfair abuse. Cat cries and says she does this hard modding work all for MBIR. Cat also claims her words are being twisted, Kanye says they don't want to argue, another user says Cat's tone is dramatic af.

u/MBIresearch made another update comment as I was writing this. It's long.

1) Sorry I was mean, 2) Ashley is still a subject, 3) TOS sucks and we don't want to get banned too, 5) I'm glad this helps people.

And, because I'm bored, I went through catete's post history.
To begin, some information about her.

Cat lives in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. She has multiple children - one daughter is 19, apparently might have some medical issues but at the very least is tiny and anxious; a teenage son with autism; a FtM transgender son (might be the autistic one?); and a son who is 24 (might be the trans one?) - and is responsible for the care of "a few young adults that birthed" but is unclear whether these are her children. Two of her children are autistic - one is the "autistic son", if the 19 year old daughter was autistic then Cat likely would've mentioned it.
She might be a nurse or other medical practitioner, if not then she is active in r/nursing for unclear reasons. She likes squishmallows and weighted blankets.

First off, more on the sedated vaccine because the curiosity was too much.

Cat got her medical advice from a subreddit about covid in Australia. Her daughter, who has a needle phobia so severe that she needed sedation at a specialist place, got her nose pierced. In case you're unfamiliar, nose piercings are purely cosmetic and never medically necessary. There is a very slight chance it is cultural, but even then it is completely optional.

Cat gets abused for being an IF mod.

1657606258997.png
Cat has deep infiltrating endometriosis, doctors are mean. This is believable but it's also exactly the type of OTT rant that would get posted on IF if a subject had posted it.

1657607511087.png
Along with a daughter who has severe needle phobia, her autistic son has had his share of medical mishaps. If he is so autistic that he would hate discussing his medical issues on a public platform, why the fuck are you doing that to him?

1657609103642.png
Her aunt had a brain aneurysm.

She knew a breast cancer munchie.

Also, lol.

I don't think Cat is a munchie, but she is dramatic and unlikable so I wanted to do a little diving.

It's also against restrictive practice rules in most places, I would guess — as laid out by the mental capacity act (in Bongland at least). I'd hope H&SC workers most places are bound by some kind of best practice guidance that advises against physical or chemical restraint wherever possible, though — it's pretty difficult in the UK to get permission to chemically restrain someone even if it's 'for their own good' for a medical procedure or whatever, and permission would usually have to be sought of each and every instance restraint of that kind was needed.

Undoubtedly does happen in the shadier corners of the sector but IME in it's used as a line of absolute last resort even for the violent, ambulatory, superstrong autist spuds

ETA I'm not sure how the situation works with munchie bitches who have full mental capacity but them sickflexing about how 'doctors want to sedate me for X procedure cos IME sOoO fWaGiLe' is definitely bollocks — at best they are dosing themselves beforehand with or without doctor approval or else hassling poor doc for meds for same :story:

I bet she feels like she won the lottery. The immune suppressing drugs for organ transplants are really strong; she will be vulnerable to random infections for the rest of her life. 5 organs, wow. People really need to understand organ transplants aren't actually as simple as "the gift of life". It extends life, but usually not to a natural lifespan.

I'm still over here trying to figure out which five. We know her liver is kill, so are her large and small intestine. So there's three. Pancreas maybe makes four. And.. stomach? Maybe? Or was the kidney thing she had a month ago actually her piss-factories shutting down?

Guess we'll wait and see if she survives to brag about it.

Historically a full multivisceral transplant is stomach, duodenum, pancreas, small intestine and liver, with a proctocolectomy removing the large intestine and creation of an ileoanal anastomosis (hooks small bowel up to rectum). Looking at the more recent literature it seems like whichever organs are needed…

This article is a dense but comprehensive summary, and provides the exciting statistic that 94% of recipients get a bacterial infection post transplant. Fun times ahead!

I love when smart people come here.

Yeah I was just googlin around and found some talk about stomach transplants as part of a multi-visceral so I figured since she claims one of her big issues is her stomach is borked they'd want to replace that while they were in there. And uh, frankly I forgot the duodenum was a thing.

This is medically-accurate, but it has a whole lot of words so I'm going to post a picture of a penanggalan.

It doesn't sound like Eds

It sounds like munchausen
i should clarify because i worded it like an absolute mong, i mean specifically that she's trying to munch EDS. don't know if its her endgame or what.

just reads like she's pretending she doesnt know what EDS is, and using those symptoms while claiming something else to try and get an EDS diagnosis or some shit.

probs overthinking, but it probably comes across more subtle to doctors that way.

Now I'm reminded of that like 11 year old who had her innards sucked out via some part of a hotel pool. I hope she got her transplant before this bitch.

She's 16 now and needs another transplant of... everything.

Edit: Update. She's still waiting. Fuck these munchies they literally steal organs from other ppl.

Is this pic recent? It looks like she never went through puberty? Cheychey jelly.

Looks like she has a tiktok and is still waiting for a transplant:

Wow, holy shit, 5 organs.
5 organs that could potentially save up to 5 different people who didn’t intentionally sabotage their own bodies so they could indulge in their eating disorder while fishing for asspats. Yeah yeah, I’m big mad on the internet that it’s reached this point when this might have been prevented by some decent counselling earlier on in this bullshit charade she’s pulling.

Since I’m now an expert due to my 5 minutes of googling and reading the article posted above, I’m surprised that the short term survival rates are so high for something as complicated as a multivisceral transplantation. Seems to be somewhere between 74% to 90%? The 10 year survival rates look quite dire though, with some papers throwing around percentages as low as 40%. She obviously needs it to survive much longer but she’ll be in for one hell of a ride if she does.

i thought Paige would be the next to go from some random infection but Cheyanne looks to have the sad walrus beat. She looks like absolute shit.

If my survival meant I needed five new organs I'd just choose to die
In all seriousness, if you feel that way, write down your wishes. Give a copy to your primary care physician. Keep one on the fridge at home. Talk to your family and friends. Health care would be a lot easier if 100% of people did this.

There are way too many cases where a healthy, young person falls into a coma. The family is brought in, and they make the medical decisions. The vast majority of the time they opt for invasive treatment that the patient never would have wanted.

I was surprised as well. I think it’s a combination of super small numbers, mostly being done in kids, no severe comorbidities that impact short term survival, and the patients themselves being super compliant. I’m actually shocked that this girl passed the screening process to get listed for transplant.
