The other part is the building of "Ghost Cities" where they've built entire cities for a couple hundred thousand people but maybe a couple hundred actually live there because they're too expensive for the average Chinese person and the buildings themselves are shoddy and poorly made.

There was a video series by a couple of gweilo who would investigate these things and it was frankly shocking. A new development for the rich had never been moved into. A couple years later it was falling apart with the roofs leaking and showing that some of the walls and roofs were literally nothing more than paper and plaster. That's what's driving their economy. And when finally they have no more place to build and no more money to do so they're going to tank and take half the world with them.

China is in no position to invade Taiwan. They simply do not have the strategic airlift and sealift capacity to make the hop to Taiwan with enough soldiers and equipment to mount a successful invasion. They only have something like 15 or so SMALL air cushioned landing craft, each only capable of carrying a few dozen troops OR one light tank or similar sized vehicle. It's a similar story with their cargo aircraft. Taiwan has enough land based anti-air and anti-ship missiles, not to mention combat aircraft, to handle anything China can throw at them currently several times over. And let's not forget that China's military pretty much only has experience stomping protesters and civil unrest and exactly zero actual combat experience. And it will take decades for China to build up enough sea and air transportation assets to actually project any kind of meaningful force beyond its borders and it's immediate neighbors connected by land. Conversely India also does a lot of business with Taiwan and doesn’t care for China either. While in theory Russia and North Korea may provide some token support in practice Russia is bogged down in Ukraine and Kim is trying desperately to make NK a viable state that can survive. A three front war (that Thailand may even enter based on what the King decides to do) would not bode well for the PRC.

The Vietnamese military is very well trained. I take issue with people who say otherwise. Sure it’s a Third World Country but those guys know how to fight better guerrilla campaigns than anyone and know how to improvise better than ISIS. Taiwan similarly has very good training. China doesn’t even have an up to date carrier and Thailand does. India may be a little behind on tech but their manpower is enormous. The most the US would have to do is basically provide Taiwan with some Patriot Missiles and VN or Thailand with fuel and China would look even worse than Russia on the International scene. Russia has had some victories I don’t see China taking Ha Noi or even landing on Taiwan.
