Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

The first 7:30 minutes you can skip, it's not really important. After that, he goes on a rant about how cities are paradises and everything outside of the cities are unlivable hellholes. The rant really pisses me off, I can't exactly articulate why.
Good God, this is literally just babby's first "the corporations are all evil, mannnn". Also dear God has this asshole been to an American city where people are walking around? The only people smiling or interacting with you are trying to sell you something. This is just the "grass is greener" effect on steroids.

I wonder if there's significant overlap of the anti-car and pro-bug crowds. Both are populated with people that are coopting some pending crisis to push a dehumanizing, authoritarian sort of agenda. I think both also receive some kind of sexual thrill from the idea of forcing another person to do something. Going to look for a youtube channel with both bike lane crybaby bullshit and freeze-dried cricket reviews, I bet I'll find something.
They absolutely are the same crowd. And they know that middle America cringes at the ideas they're pushing and that absolutely fuels them. It's funny that NJB seems to like Keffals because I'd lay money he(and many of his followers by extension) has the same paraphilia for public humiliation that Keffals does.

These people have been told their whole lives how horrible and wasteful they're being and the only way to change the weather is with sacrifice. Notice how infuriated they get at the concept of electric cars allowing people to no longer consume gas but keep a comparable level of comfort. You could give these people lab-grown meat and jetpacks that use water for fuel and they'd still find an issue with it, throw it in your face and go right back to their lycra and cricket snacks. I recall seeing a video on religious ceremonies and as it turns out, one of the best ways to get people to bond with one another is to out them through painful and often humiliating rituals.

I think about that a lot.

One of the things I came across but forgot to document is the term "orange pill", which essentially refers to radicalizing people against cars. Yes, it's another overused Matrix reference
Basically it's just doing the Morpheus scene but for hating cars and suburbia.
How many of these fucking "pills" are there by now?

First it was the PUAs and MRAs straight ripping off the "red pill" (which kind of got absorbed into the general lexicon).

The MGTOWs came next with the "black pill" to distinguish themselves from above PUAs.

Then faggy animal rights/eco-conscious types tried getting "green pill" off the ground, but nobody cared.

I know someone uses "purple pill", don't know for what (maybe trannies?).

Now the Urbanist Crew has the Orange Pill, which they're fighting over with the Super Crypto Bros.

What's going to happen when the colours run out?

That video is unintentional comedy. The truth is that the cities that he loves so much are crime-ridden hell holes.

My opinion on this is somewhat less intellectual - I figured that he latches on to all the bigger social media grifters who are likely to be on his "side" (Vaush, Keffals, etc.) in the hope of catching a ride on their coattails.

Virtually all the smallish grifters do this (that tub of lard Tipster trying to attach himself to Keemstar would be a great example)

Also, don't Keffals and NJB live in the same town/city (London, Ontario, CA - the place he calls "Fake London")?

Oh, and @UmQasaan:

"Why are you spacing our your post like this"

Because I can.

They're definitely BreadTube adjacent (I mean, NJB is literally subbed to Contrapoints of all people). While I agree with the general sentiment of raising awareness for urban planning, I don't believe the polarization they're causing is a good thing. A lot of what he advocates for, only exists in the Randstad (The more urban, more left-leaning economic center of The Netherlands) and doesn't really exist outside of that bubble, apart from the Arnhem - Nijmegen region. Partly because of this, they're creating a false narrative, they're only showing you the good, not the bad. When I was living in a more deprived part of the country, I was still paying a very high insurance rate, fuel and tax for my car, but I had no other option: The bus only went once an hour and it took 2 hours for it to get to my destination, whereas it's only 30 minutes tops by car. This shafts development in the poorer regions of the country.
I like cars, and I want cars to stay. These Youtubers are right about a lot of things, but they're ignoring many, many key points. For example, NJB tries to spin it as if American suburbs are dangerous and a Ponzi scheme. He forgets to tell you that The Netherlands also has sprawling suburbs (i.e. "bloemkoolwijken" - Cauliflower neighborhoods), while they do have better transport connections, they're still very far from the city (e.g. Colmschate). Anyway, my point isn't so much to discuss urban planning, my point is that he's being disingenuous.

Things like, "SUV's are vanity vehicles" are stupid talking points. The alternatives he suggests, such as a Urban Arrow bakfiets, are hilariously expensive, and only reserved for the Randstad middle class. The average person in The Netherlands cannot afford one, these cargo bikes are also vanity vehicles and he fails to address many points such as the width of the bike in relation to the bike paths, it's the same problem you have with SUVs, but because they're bikes it's suddenly okay? You're a bit of a hypocrite here Jason.
There's a collective in The Netherlands that "shakes" the electric VanMoof bikes which causes the alarm to trigger, making the owner have to respond, as well as tiewrapping the wheels so the ride isn't as comfortable anymore. Yet, Jason is happily advertising these late-stage capitalism products and framing them disingenuously. It's the same problem SUVs have, but in bike form. He doesn't talk about this though, he doesn't want you to know this, because that's the bad kind of vandalism! Nooooo, not our heckin' bikes!

Also, as an expat in The Netherlands, Jason happily makes use of the "30% ruling", a tax break for if you're immigrating to The Netherlands. Yes, you read that right, not only is this guy shamelessly trying to widen the Randstad divide, he's doing it tax free like the grifter he is.

One more thing, about the "missing middle housing": This doesn't exist in the same way it does in The Netherlands, however Jason wants you to believe there's a healthy mix. In reality, The Netherlands is in a deep housing crisis where the median income is priced out, there's 0, ZERO homes available for people with median incomes. This isn't the cause of the housing crisis though, it's many things that the government mismanaged such as the temporary mortgage tax deduction, bad rent controls and more. What he wants you to think, and what the government also wants you to think, is that we should build more housing. But the truth is, we have enough homes, except a lot are empty because the government introduced tax benefits around this for landlords, and many other reasons before something like mixed use developments come up.

I'm sure many of the ideas they have are great on paper. But the reality is that someone will have to pay, and it will likely be the people of the poorer regions of The Netherlands like they've always done, they ignore this, they don't talk about this, they want you to believe it'll be a heckin' wholesome kind society. My parents live along a dirt road in a very poor area, with the closest public transport connection an hour away. The people who live in these places have been subsidizing the Randstad utopia for decades and they're sick of it. I'm sick of it too, especially when people come to the country using tax deductions and other benefits, conveniently ignoring the reality that someone is paying for their luxury. Their world-view is incompatible with what's actually happening in the country.

On the subject of whether this should be in Mass Debates or Community Watch, this is definitely a community of people that are grifting with these ideas that are only going to drive a bigger wedge between the working and middle classes. We should try to provide strong counterpoints, not debate each other. I know that people like Jason, Alan Fisher, etc will read these posts, they always do. I hope we can plant a little seed of conscious and I'll be very interested to see any response from them.

I figured he was full of shit but not to this extent. If the farmer protests ever go Sri Lanka I await his crying shakycam videos about how the netherlands has fallen and he's on the run from inbred facists

The orange pill they choose is quite unfortunate. The first thing that comes to mind is that they're endorsing Trump because orange man. Next is Netherland's House of Orange and William of Orange. Lastly is the Dutch football team colors. They really couldn't have picked a different color?

NJB picked orange because it’s the Dutch national color and he’s a dutchaboo.

It’s also why I posted a picture of Dutch fans dressed in orange watching a car race because a person who gets triggered by the sight of an SUV and unironically believes “cities aren’t loud, cars are” would have a heart attack if they heard the noise that an F1 car makes.

even during a time before Amsterdam had proper road/pedestrian structure or driving regulations
and at the time people (including kids) were dying left and right cuz of the cars
they were sane enough to NOT ban cars cuz they weren't stupid enough to not see its utility
they instead developed the very roads Jason praises so much about

for something you praise and never shut up about you would think how it all started
but NoOoOo nigga instead wanna ban cars cuz their evil

According to Reddit, malls are the alternative to walking all across town to do you weekly shopping.

I think the original designers of the mall wanted housing on top of them but because of zoning and other bureaucratic red tape they wound up just being commercial hotspots.

Long before e-commerce put the nail in the coffins of shopping malls, big box stores put them to rest. WalMart was killing them off long before Amazon took off. You can even get some snacks and outdoor/winter clothing at a Home Depot if you want. Or head on over to Fleet Farm, which is WalMart and Home Depot combined.

Thanks for posting this, this sort of local knowledge helps cut through the bullshit.

As for the "SUV bicycle", as soon as I saw this I was certain that it was either a bespoke product or one available in very limited numbers. In other words, expensive as hell.

Cycling has become pretty expensive (upper middle class expensive) in general, unless you're fortunate enough to live in a country which has a local industry producing inexpensive bicycles (Like in India).

It's probably not as hard on the pocket in Europe and the US, but in the third world a bicycle can set you back a lot unless you know of a shop that sells cheap bikes.

There's a collective in The Netherlands that "shakes" the electric VanMoof bikes which causes the alarm to trigger, making the owner have to respond, as well as tiewrapping the wheels so the ride isn't as comfortable anymore. As soon as I read about the pricks who vandalize cars, I was certain that there were arseholes somewhere who were fucking around with bicycles too, whether out of envy, revenge or some stupid 'ideological' reason. Do they have a Twitter feed or somewhere else where they boast about their 'great deeds'?

Also, as an expat in The Netherlands, Jason happily makes use of the "30% ruling", a tax break for if you're immigrating to The Netherlands. Yes, you read that right, not only is this guy shamelessly trying to widen the Randstad divide, he's doing it tax free like the grifter he is.
I see quite a few countries in Europe have that kind of thing - Ireland is another one, I think Belgium too(unless they got rid of theirs, I know the locals hated it)

Why the hell are these incentives offered? If it's to attract rich people who might start businesses which will employ people, they're not very good at doing that. What they are good at is attracting trust fund brats who don't and will never work, and grifters like our Canadian Londoner.

One more thing, about the "missing middle housing": This doesn't exist in the same way it does in The Netherlands, however Jason wants you to believe there's a healthy mix. How did that happen? I know of unoccupied housing resulting from rent-controls, where the rental cap on rent-controlled accommodations was kept artificially low(too low for the landlord to break even after maintenance costs)by politicians to attract votes, so these flats were just kept empty after being vacated(usually when the occupant died). In the end entire blocks of flats were standing vacant until rent controls were abolished.

Is the problem in the Netherlands something like this or completely different?

One thing is certain: if there's an incentive for not doing something, it is extremely hard to get rid of, because lobby groups to keep it in place pop into existence almost immediately and grow like cancers.
