So we cant just make the "kiwitubers.net" without it turning into cirklejerk of various faggots and coomers without jersh and his unique way of running a website?
I fucking hate westoids!!!!!! You take away the only place i get to talk about vtubers in peace!!!!!
You can, but then you need to have a dedicated crew of unpaid jannies to wrangle the impending circlejerk. Said crew will form its own clique and power trip from time to time, leading to a cleansing or more gimmick parachutes shitting up the board.

This whole forums cycle has been studied thoroughly since the late 90s.

For a girl who has so many animals and loves them Pippa sure loves murdering them in games. I'm concerned chat.

You can make a Kiwitubers.net, the problem is it won't get the fun folks from here coming over. Maybe there could be some collaborative effort where it's an offshoot that links between the two and has better uptime as it won't really be on the radar but I don't see there being any benefit to Null for it unless it's monetized and feeds him part of the profit.

I'll just come out and say it at this point. I've toyed with the idea of making a vtuber-centric forum with values based on Kiwifarms (open discussion of room-mates, rules that heavily discourage coombaiting, zero tolerance for progressive insanity) for a while. If I had enough people interested then I would definitely pursue that option if and only IF Kiwifarms itself went down. I have no pretension towards it being 'better' than this thread, or any interest in leadership for the sake of leadership. I just have the benefits of a more or less stable psychological profile and a high tolerance for tardwrangling.

At the very least it'd be kino if people had a way to keep talking and stay in contact if this place goes down. I would propose an Element.io room, (as that seems anonymous?) that people can just join without breaking opsec. But I'm open to suggestions.

All I want is for the particularly autistic magic of this place not to flicker out. That's worth some effort. If it comes to that.

Have you considered asking Null about it for advice about privacy and the like? Maybe I'm just optimistic but I think if you went to him with the stance that you're not doing it to compete but because you're worried about the site going down and it being a back up for the community he'd probably be reasonable. I don't think KF is going down, but with the recent messages he's putting out it would be nice to have a back up for people to regroup and find out what's going on. That and maybe if it's a little removed from the bad PR, vtubers might be open to posting there.

Though really I just want KF to be up and healthy.

Maybe NijiEN management wants to push the generation thing harder to follow in Hololive's footsteps. Are there any examples from JP that have been big on the whole "gen" thing or is this just an EN thing?
I feel like they started to emphasize gens a bit more once they started slowing down the pace of debuts in JP. Going back to like 2020 with VALZ and Selejo having a more cohesive theme than most previous waves, and kinda continuing with Eden-gumi and the VTA waves. EN is the closest to the more Hololive style of doing things by generations thing though.

I think people need to come to terms with websites, forums, and groups not being around forever. I'm not trying to say anything bad about KF, but to me it's just another in a long line of places that will almost certainly close down. I definitely don't want that to happen obviously, but I just can't help remembering all the specific usenet groups that were my lifeline to discuss all my interests with more than 2 other people, and now they sit there only as an archive. Everyone moved away. Then watching certain forums that discussed anime (or whatever other shit I was into) in the 00's eventually become safe havens for degenerate fags who push the old users out, or the forum just collapses and disappears into the void. I'm sure it's extremely difficult to run KF in the current year. I won't be surprised when I eventually wake up one day and see that familiar post from the admin that I've seen dozens of times before.

I'll take the time and say that there's a 99% chance that whatever splinter group or site that may arise from the ashes will fail within a year. It's not every day you get an actual successful splinter like Kiwi Farms. I'd never suggest that you shouldn't try if you're passionate enough about it. Not trying makes that 99% chance into a 100%. I just want to caution that things will not be the same. As others have mentioned, just look at that discord group that came from here and try to imagine wrangling people as a new admin. They'll just leave lol.

Anyway, I refuse to doompost about Kiwi Farms. Instead I will post about two hag birds that like each other. Apparently Lui-nee watches Kaela's streams when she's working late at night.

Anything but another forum(Specifically, just one thread) would not work to retain the posting culture or the archiving nature of this thread. Discord being the worst idea out of all. It fails for archiving purposes and also fails as a way of interacting with a community on a daily basis with the ability of catching up at your on pace through the pages.

Imagine trying to catch up on discord to a live watching of a collab.
I sure as heck don’t want to try keeping up with a discord channel, but I think one would be good as a staging area for news. Like, when KF is temporarily down to find status updates (for some reason telegram doesn’t work for me half of the time and asks for login, even though I know it doesn’t need a login to see the KF posts), or if MTG and the tranny armies bring it down, to have a place to gather and figure out what to do next.

I really do like the single-thread nature and the fact that it’s actually possible to keep up with unlike a chat room, but if it were to suddenly get taken down by the feds, I’d like somewhere to go to be able to figure out what the next step is.

I don’t think we need a brand new forum with mods and blah blah at this stage, just an ‘emergency contact’ channel.

Pre-edit: As a veteran reader of several banned subreddits from the past few years, yeah, groups that form from the ashes of old groups never quite feel the same, but sometimes it’s better than nothing.

I would consider approaching Null but I really don't think he needs to add 'babysitting people in a thread whose content he mainly hates' to the list of nonsense he has to deal with right now.

I've had this insane, hopelessly delusional fantasy of a forum where (small-scale) talents are able to interact with a candid audience and get feedback and advice. There's a ton of shit out there about vtubing; how to do it, what to do, what not to do, etc. But it's all decentralized. Whenever you try and talk about this stuff in a more conventional place, you get delusional idiots demanding you buy the kayfabe or getting angry when you imply that maybe their oshi considers this a job instead of an intimate parasocial relationship.

I love vtubers but I fucking hate how you're 'not allowed' to talk about the mechanics and realities of the industry, or reference roommates in more than the vaguest sense. I get the RP, fine, but everyone knows the reality, just like they know an actor on a screen isn't their character in the movie. I want a place like this where both the good and the bad can be discussed without violent insanity breaking out. The worst shit I've seen here between users isn't even a candle compared to the deranged rants between tribalfags elsewhere.

Hell, maybe even do a cute 'two-view Tuesday' thing with the banner system that highlights a random indie every week for a popularity boost. Shit like that is simple in concept, you just need a fucking braincell or two.

Let's be honest for a moment,
1. This whole situation is probably not gonna delete the farms, are we in a tight and unsure spot? yes. Is it end times? Not yet, so don't panic.
2. We aren't the primary users of the site. The farms is for discussing lolcows, we are just an abnormally large offtopic thread, dear leader isn't gonna prioritize us in any decision.
3. If the farms does go belly-up, any "new vtuber thread" elsewhere will most likely just become an absolute hive of autism and actual faggotry and like you're an idiot mentioned, will probably die within a year (6 months imo).
4. In opposition to point 2, we also aren't dependent on the farms, vtubing wasn't born here and will not die if the farms dies. Sure this thread's culture will be lost (or somewhat survived by /vt/, as horrible as it sounds), but our loss would be orders of magnitude smaller than the main cow threads'.

So all in all, enjoy it while it lasts.

The farms has been in danger before, it'll probably be in danger again, but I hope the storm passes this time.

If it doesn't, give your oshi lots of love and patience. Give a 1 or 2 view a chance. Don't go to vt too much and get super cynical. Come say hi to me on twitch even though I can't tell you who I am! (No one important, I promise.)

Maybe most importantly, remember what they took from you.

And now that I got my feels out, and you jerks know how much I like chatting about cute girls and boys doing cute things with you guys... Tax time!

You know, the whole escapism/immersion thing where people just pretend the vtuber is actually an anime character is what mostly kept me from getting into them in the first place. I'm fine larping and whatever, but demanding everyone larp all the time is just obnoxious and I honestly don't care who the character is, I just like the streamer or I don't. I think that's why phase connect and Lisa work for me, sure they have some backstory or whatever, but it's pretty much never mentioned outside of jokes.

The farms has been in danger before, it'll probably be in danger again, but I hope the storm passes this time.
I think it will be fine, but this is the first time someone as high profile as MTG has been involved and she's quite dumb. Hopefully someone helps her figure out that the swatter isn't a user on here just because they double pinky sweared they were, because their fingers were crossed when they did it.

Time to get some cans and strings so the MAN can't stop us from talking about vtubers! :smug:

What we got here is very unique and I kind of like it, but I don't think those who want to look into making an alternative should give up on it. I think there is a market for a vtuber discussing place without the restrictions on discussing roommates or all things vtubing. Don't think Kiwifarms should be the only place that does that. Kind of wonder how it'll go too without the Kiwifarms stigma there is with some Vtuber spheres. Either way, let your autism flourish!
