I am not a soft person and I don't think anyone else is personally to blame for what's happened to this guy but he isn't making that stupid decision in a vacuum. It's the fault of the trooniverse for preying on vulnerable people and making them think this is not only possible but desirable. Just have a quick scan of r/eggirl or other trans subs and see the language used to describe these 'affirming' surgeries.
I agree that this guy doesn't have anyone else to blame but I find it impossible to read these stories without being slightly sad for them.

It's widely considered shameful in Western culture to expect anyone hold your hand or really help you. In other less individualistic, stoic, and competitive cultures it isn't shameful to be vulnerable or ask for help. But this is our culture on this website, and it was the culture of the native-English-speaking world until basically yesterday (the 1990s).
Even if it was my partner who told me I was doing something really annoying, I wouldn't even ask for guidance to stop doing it. Because that would be being weak and dependent, and he'd think less of me for that. I'd just either find a way to stop doing it, or do it somewhat less often or less annoyingly, or ignore it and risk the consequences.
