When I was a wokie I had the wool fully pulled over my eyes that this pendulum swing would be a bad thing. The world was already on fire, how would the culture swinging more right be survivable? I would stay awake at night doomscrolling r/news and crying.
I believed what the news media was telling me: I was living in an alt-right dystopia, the government was crawling with degenerates who wanted to destroy my rights (this, actually, is still true). The truth is, outside of politics and SJWs, we do not live in a right-wing world. We live in left-wing insanity. The craziness of politics the last few years is a result of that. I remember growing up with Bush post-9/11 and like others have said here, that was the kind of liberalism/leftism (whatever) I believe in. I disagreed with the Republicans, but I didn’t want any of them dead.
It used to be, there were three things you didn’t talk about in mixed company: Politics, Abortion, and Religion. That suited me just fine. But now, everyone has to shove their beliefs in your face. I blame Twitter largely.
The pendulum swinging far to the left is as bad as it swinging far to the right, just for different reasons. Culturally, the closest to ‘utopia’ would be when it passes over the middle. The 90’s, perhaps, the last time we saw this?
We’re the centrists of sexuality: easy targets, not really hurting anyone, trying to ignore most of the insanity, and hated for our “privilege“.
To TRAs, having privilege means that you owe them something by virtue of your very existence. If you do not capitulate, you will face their very masculine rage.
