I'm actually reminded of a book I read back in college by Aussie writer Peter Carrey called "The Fat Man in History". It's a series of short stories with a bunch of common themes like a quiet revolution, a person or people set apart and other things. There was one story where aliens had come down to Earth and had managed to cure all of mankind's ills including the ability to change people's bodies so you could literally look like you always wanted. And some, who are fighting against the aliens, choose to be turned into monstrous beings which they used as a statement as for why this was bad.
