Oh, yeah, sure, it'd be great to see AMD go crazy stupid with chiplets. After hearing all these experiments from EVGA that NVIDIA shut down, I'm pissed at the peaks of performance we've missed out on over the years. Nothing would make me happier than glued together GPUs with somewhat arbitrary limits on performance.

I was so full of hope and optimism when vulkan/dx12 explicit multi-gpu was announced.... Dashed!

Linus is currently declaring jihad on the comment section. Hes super butthurt people said he called 1440p "low-res" but he totally didn't and was only referring to 43 inch displays.
Did that come from today's WAN Show? What a hostile title.

According to the Steam Hardware Survey, 1920x1080 is still king, at 65.06% - nearly 2/3rds of Steam's userbase are on 1080p screens for their computers.

Steam Hardware Survey screen resolutions as of November 2022:

If Linus' audience were 1:1 with Steam's hardware surveys, "1440p is low res" insults 97.40% of his audience. So fuck you, Linus.

They're still live but it's at about -1 hour 39minutes. I'll update with timestamp when I can.

Maybe this is just me getting old, but at the size my screens are, and the distance I sit from them (pretty close), 1080p is already at the "squint and lean in a bit if you want to see the pixels" scale. 1440p makes sense if you've got some monster 32"+ screen on your desk for roughly the same reasoning. Once you get above that, you're entering a rapidly diminishing returns scenario where your performance is suffering for marginal gain. I'm sure you 'can' see a difference but its hardly a "thousands of dollars and framerate fighting" worthy difference. I'd rather buy a 4080, run it on a 1080p 144hz display, and get really smooth results with those raytrace settings that do actually make a visual difference.

Odds are, they are - His contents already built to appeal to normies, so there's no reason to presume they're suddenly picky hardware consumers on the side.

This 4k-8k hounding doesn't really make sense for anything outside of VR, where they're trying to create a full field of vision and not just a box a couple feet away. Its a cool dickwaving contest and fun to push the hardware, but its important to remember when your just fucking around, less you end up acting elitist.

I actually just watched that review and unless they modified the video then just this once linus is right. It was quite clearly conveyed it's about PPI and not the resolution itself. And he's right, it is quite low for such a big display. When my display broke i had to to use 27" 1080p monitor for a while which has similar PPI to that corsair and it's bearable at distance but not exactly great. For 2000$ i'd expect better, no matter the gimmick.

I mainly shoot for 24" monitors for my PC; even when I had three of them, 24" was as large as I was willing to go because that's a lot of real estate. I have a 32" gaming monitor I have hooked up to my consoles, but I won that in a raffle. Is it nice to have, yeah, but not something where I decided was the future. I also don't play above 1080p; I don't go hard enough in FPS to where I need every millisecond to react and be able to see everything to land a 4-pixel headshot from across the map. Also, with the lower resolution, I get better FPS and can crank the graphics without worrying if it'll be okay.

One thing Linus also talks about in the recent WAN show is the twitter stuff, but in usual leftist leaf style he ignored everything about the Twitter Files and how it shows the bullshit liberals went through in censoring stuff, acts like doxxing and going after your kids is just something you have to deal with and people shouldn't be banned for retweeting this stuff like JerryRigEverything (if that's the case why did you pull that one show down where you doxxed yourself), and instead tried to say Twitter is just bad code because of something one of his workers showed. What is so weird about hearing about the twitter stuff from Linu's perspective you'd think the app is dead but it's thriving more than ever, but he's got that narrative because "lol Musk got boo'd in San Francisco."

Its stupid... i just saw a 3d movie in imax and it was 4k. there is no reason to have a 4k display if you sit right infront of it.

I got a OLED 50 inch at my dad's place, it's hard to notice 4k, specially when it's fucking compressed like youtube or netflix.
Wish shit like HDR/Dolby Vision got more traction, it's far more noticeable and you actually notice the difference.
At least most phones since 2020 with oled/amoled got it, so you can check the difference.

Oled itself is a bigger upgrade to normal Screens than 4k. i have an older plasma i use for videogames and movies and its so much better than most more modern screens.

the issue is that you have nothing to watch in that quality. some sub HD DVD from good companies look better than 4k Bluerays from mainstream companies...
