Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Finished a lot of anime yesterday:
Bocchi - Very good finale for the best anime of the year. I found the ad money pretty funny since I actually wondered why Bocchi worked if her Youtube stardom should have made her quite a nice sum of money.
Spy X Family - The final episodes are better than the dreadful tennis match and are pretty heartwarming and fun, plus the show finally has a meeting with the target rather than lock it besides the stella stars. Hopefully next season/movie sticks to what works rather than add unnecessary episodes.
Mob Pyscho - I think the show would have worked more with half the episodes, as it stands the final season is way too padded to be enjoyable, and a lot of time I just ended up looking at my phone during minutes of fighting that are just throwing ki blasts at one another with very little stakes involved. I do like that the series ended up with a good message that's connected to its main theme - You should improve yourself but never reject who you are.
Sword Isekai - It's fun in the juvenile way though it went too fast in the main heroine abilities and she only get crazier shit. I liked the final reveal about the elf, that's the kind of thing that you should do in a fantasy setting.

Watched a few suggested clips from that new Dragon Ball movie. It's somehow even worse than what the anime devolved into. I don't know who this series is even for anymore. How many times can they nostalgia bait people and fool them that it's quality entertainment?

I liked the concept of Godly power and all when that first post Z movie came out. But then it became the tired troupe of just changing hair colors for more power and weak storylines. I thought the Buu series was a weak ending for the series but it's vastly better than the shit writing and wooden digital animation in Super.

I like a few things about Super but overall it's terrible.

I finished Mob Psycho 100 and it was a pretty great finale.

As for Spy x Family, after the anime I decided to catch up to the manga and holy fuck the manga gets so much better, I can't wait for the Cruise ship arc to be animated since that was great.

As for other anime, Chainsaw Man is pretty good, MHA is finally beginning to devolve into the utter shitshow the manga became and I'm here for it.

There's also the Urusei Yatsura remake which I really like so far.

*good lord I need to catch up*
I'm caught up with Spy X Family manga wise, have been before the anime aired, glad you seemed to enjoy it and yes, the Cruise Ship arc is absolute peak fiction.

I'm keeping up with Gundam Witch, and holy fuck, I love it. We have robots that kill their pilots and possibly have a few souls floating inside, a mystery that spans 21 years, goregous animation, complex charecters that you usually start out hating and end up loving, and a... a... a gay relationship that isn't Steven Universe tier garbage. Like... its an actual fucking relationship. The last episode had me in tears. I'm not lying.

Hope you guys had a great Merry Christmas and a future Happy New Year 2023. DDoS made it hard for me to post on here, even with Tor and VPN.

Anyway, I recently finished the entire first season of Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion. I can’t speak much on it so I’ll give some standouts as to why this was an 8/10 for me, even though I had wanted to give it an 9/10:

- The stand off between Lelouch and Suzuka was a nice touch at the end of the series, with Nunnally looking like she was the one that was shot. Great cliffhanger.

- The first time I teared up when I found out that Euphemia managed to shoot and kill the entirety of the people in the area due to Lelouch’s mishandling of the Geass after telling an ill-timed joke. That has not happened in a while to me, and I remembered thinking this was going to make it hard to sleep, but I thankfully managed.

- Kallen‘s constant struggle to join forces with Zero and be friendly with Lelouch in school, only to break down when she found out Lelouch‘s existence as Zero.

- Lloyd was a wonderful character with glasses. Nina was a character with glasses that was on the verge of a mental breakdown when Euphemia was gone. Plus, that table where she did her business with Euphemia’s picture suffered dearly.

- C.C.’s character development was really sticking it in high gear, to the point where I questioned if she likes Lelouch or will betray him if I ever get around to watching the second season. The latter end of the episodes said otherwise, but it was a very interesting concept to see how those two managed to meet in the first place.

- Jeremiah being used a test subject only to get destroyed as a test subject by facing off against C.C. was poetry to me.

Anyway, I’m debating now to watch the second season after watching the cliffhanger. Either way, this one was one of the best of 2006, and I’ll ask any questions if you need answering as to why I can only give this an 8/10. Plus, maybe Gurren Lagann might be next.

Been rewatching Chrono Crusade

Honestly I forgot how fun this show was. Probably the first cute girls with guns show I remember seeing. Shame it doesn't get much love anymore

Watched the new Bleach anime and... it's actually good. Wat?
They ended it at the best part of TYBW, TYBW's main issues come with the 2nd Quincy Invasion, while the 1st part (adapted by the 1st cour) had some issues, it's still great & where the anime ends is considered to be the peak of this whole ark. The 2nd Invasion which the next cour will adapt is shit goes from pretty to tardy, & the one later will go from tardy to retardy. This is all unless Kubo tard-wrangles himself & does some much needed changes to the end of the arc in the anime.

They did censor the Rukia Peach & Masaki Booba tho, they made an anime special Hollow Peach scene, the mouse™ is showing it's effects. Hopefully the Blu-ray rectifies this issue.

I need Akiba Maid War to get a bluray release asap especially if they will never release Joran physically.

Continuing with Zombieland Saga and Witch Hunter Robin. I need to finish ZS season 1 first because I got the 2nd for Xmas. I think the next episode is the infamous Lily one?

prepare for feels and let the hate flow through you after watching it and reading the wikipedia entry.

in further news, this exists (and it's a mess of different playlists for some reason):

still no upload of the SICK HACK insert song, literally ONE JOB aniplex.

I love the Chrono Crusade manga it's balances being really fun while also being somewhat tragic at the same time. I really can only think of a few I've ever read that had such a sad ending even if that ending was very obviously going to happen. I'm so glad that I found a beat up copy of the first volume at a thrift store otherwise I never would've discovered it.

As always, just ignore terminally online retards. The episode itself is very sweet and doesn't bother itself with culture warring.

Akiba Maid War's ending is almost perfect, I'd thought it'd lost a bit of steam after the Crimson Supernova was dealt with, but the final 3 eps are all top tier. That abruptness is perfect too, been ages since I felt actual stakes in a show. Now we just need an OVA to show the aftermath of the episode.

Apparently Chainsaw Man is struggling in BD sales while Bocchi can't be doing better. Besides being a nice whitepill, Bocchi takes a lot more risks and got a great payoff for it. Meanwhile Chainsaw Man is so boring and tame (ironically) that I don't even want to spare the effort watching the last episodes, you might as well just read the manga since there is nothing to be gained by the animated adaption. I'm not speaking about bad CGI, the scenes (both regular and martial) lack weight, the coloring is boring and the voice work is bland. It's very much the de-facto generic shonen shit with slightly darker aspects.

Bonus:

I finished Roberta's Blood Trail a while back and god damn is it the best part of Black Lagoon. Was not disappointed in the slightest.

The slow burn intrigue of a social-political Chinese feudal courts is lacking but Raven of the Inner Palace is an ok watch. If you like mystery ghost stories, you might like it.
