DAMN THAT MICHAEL JACKSON
STEALING MUSIC FROM THE WHITE MAN

Also from sonic retro:
The digital materials for the elementary 5th grade English textbook in Japan has a video about David Bull which we watched in class today. He's a Canadian living in Japan working as a carver and printer of traditional Japanese woodblocks. He's also half of Ukiyoe Heroes, making woodblock prints based on videogames. Since the textbook's video only showed his more traditional works, I brought in pictures of some of his other pieces to show the kids based on Donkey Kong, Mario Bros., Pokemon, and Starfox. I also showed them this piece based on Sonic:

The reaction it got was interesting. First of all, everyone in the room had heard of Sonic, so that alone is a big change from several years ago when half of the kids had no idea who he was. But there were quite a few surprised "eh? harinezumi???" ("hedgehog?") exclamations upon seeing the more realistic depiction, since no one in the room had any idea that Sonic was a hedgehog. Also interesting was that no one in the room (including the teacher) realized that Sonic was a Japanese character. They all thought it was an American character and game series. I assumed this was due to the movies being American productions, but the teacher's reasoning was that Sonic was a cute animal character so it seemed more American than Japanese (has this guy never laid eyes on Pokemon?). I had to assure them all that Sonic was indeed a hedgehog and a Japanese creation, while also admitting that he's more popular outside of Japan.

And once we got all of that settled we studied some English.
Priorities.

Black OR white. But seriously, he's always more of a Sega guy than a Sony guy anyway.

I just finished Sonic '06 for the first time. These points have been talked about to death but whatever:

- My biggest problem with the plot is that the game can't decide whether it runs on a stable time loop, or an unstable one (i.e. "Back to the Future" style). Almost all instances of time travel in the game suggest a stable loop (Mephiles recognizing Shadow, finding Omega already in standby mode etc.). But when the Egg Carrier crashes, Sonic goes back to change the past i.e. an unstable loop.

- When Sonic and Silver are on a time-critical mission to save Elise, they have to pass three trials. After completing them and making their way through Kingdom Valley, they catch up with the Egg Carrier just minutes too late. Meanwhile, when Shadow and Rouge need to get to Kingdom Valley, they just... take a back door? Why couldn't Sonic go this way? Do the priests hate Elise that much?

- One positive thing is that I actually like Eggman in this game. He's a little more subtle here It honestly reminds of his character in SA2. Mike Pollock has been voicing Eggman for 20 years, and it seems like he really exhibits more of a range in this game than any other. Listen to him introducing himself to Elise or talking about Solaris. He sounds like a completely different person.
Anyway, thank you for reading my pointless sperging about a game that's been done to death.
I prefer to believe the example of an "unstable loop" you mentioned still falls under a "stable loop." After all, the Egg Carrier crashes in both timelines, so who's to say that Future Sonic isn't rescuing Elise just as Past Sonic is pounding his fist into the dirt over having "failed" to rescue her? Dumb theory, I know.

Frankly, the nonsense you mentioned isn't even the biggest plot hole in the game. For instance, fans have tracked the time periods of the Chaos Emeralds, and one of them is indeed trapped in a stable loop, which tears a giant hole through the continuity of the franchise should one consider Sonic 06 to be part of the grander "canon" of the series.

Sonic Origins Plus Has Been Rated In Korea

If this is in line with Mega Collection Plus, what games do you think will be on it? The Game Gear/Master System games? Sonic R? CHAOTIX (:optimistic:)?
Bugfixes.

It remains baffling to me that remakes of the classic games are local-only multiplayer, but it's wishful thinking to hope for [edit:] online multiplayer at this point in time. Maybe all the people who whinged about Amy not being playable will finally get what they wanted. Multiple playable characters seems to be on SEGA's agenda for Sonic into the future, after all.

Hope that if she does become playable that she doesnt play like in the advance games, I wasnt a fan of her play style tbh.

It's possible, but when Tails checks the historical records in Silver's time he finds that Elise died 2 days after the Festival of the Sun. This wouldn't have happened in a stable loop since Sonic would "already" have rescued her. Whatever, I think we've already put more thought into this between the two of us than the developers did.

I touched on this in my last post, but I've been playing Sonic Boom and it really does strike me how much different Mike Pollock's Eggman is in '06 compared to the later games.

'06:
Rise of Lyric (I was going to post just the intro cutscene, but I can't find videos for individual cutscenes; people really don't care about this game :story: ):

It's like a completely different person, both in voice and manner. I'd love to see '06 Eggman again at some point, but that won't happen until Sega embraces grandiose stories again *sigh*

They are different developers. Still doesn't change the fact that Sonic's continuity is fundamentally broken.

Extra games would be cool, but I want them to add to what's already there. More characters, more stages, new music, kind of like Nintendo did with the Mario games on GBA (well, they only added new stages and collectibles, but still).
