See, you have to remember that Chris is
obsessed with femininity. Many of his most influental shows -- Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, Sailor Moon, My Little Pony, and Hyperdimension Neptunia just to name a few -- what they all have in common is they're either made for little girls, and / or they prominently feature pretty women doing pretty things. He has long since held Barb in far higher regard than Bob -- hell, he used to draw her far younger than her husband. His gal pals of yore were all, well, girls. Actually, now that I think of it, all his life women were more likely to give him the time of day, and were nicer about it.
To Chris, women and femininity represent a sort of "softness" (as I heard someone say here), an idealized state of innocence and purity that hearkens back to those days long ago when Chris was truly content (which is what everything Chris does comes back to, tbh). He idolizes women, so then is it not unsurprising that he would ever want to mimic them, or even try and become one himself?
And on that same note I don't believe Chris is gay. He's certainly a massive faggot but I genuinely don't think he likes men that much, or even in that way at all.
