I had a minor surgery on my back yesterday, and I was absolutely terrified going in.
Now, weirdly, I have had very similar surgeries before, and was no where near a scared, and I was musing over why, afterwards (it all went totally fine and I already am in way les pain)
I was running through all the rationalisations that people ue in order to make peace with the risks of surgery, ‘in good hands’ ‘the surgeon is so good, they all know exactly what they are doing’

Then realised it’s probably the last two years of reading this thread, and other affiliated trans medicine as a concept, and having my confidence in the medical field fucking shredded.
The surgeon looked like a sleazy grifter to me when the last time I saw him some years ago he seemed charismatic and all knowing.

People's trust in health care has been slowly eroding for the past couple of decades.
All you have to do is look at how doctors are portrayed in pop culture.
In the beginning they were shown to be caring, knowledgeable, people who wanted what was best for you, almost like a surrogate parent.
Fast forward to today; the common portrayal is either a jaded, cynical, fucker that only cares about money, or an inept, clod...who only cares about money.

A year or so ago I was in conversation with a man who was tangentially involved in developing one of the covid shots. I mean very much tangentially, he was a project manager in a minor trial and he was boasting about how vital the work was and how very important he was. When I expressed my opinion that he might want to not say this in public because of the risk of blowback down the line he looked like I’d slapped him. Got very huffy. When I told him cheerily that IMO people would be lynching us from lampposts for covid he got extremely upset. This isnt the only conversation I’ve had like this and maybe I’m an arsehole for doing it but I don’t care much any more.
I checked his LinkedIn a year later because he’d posted something even more (tranny related, oddly enough) dumb and he’d scrubbed all mention of the covid work from there.
My faith in the medical profession is zero. Sorry, I know there’s a few good ones out there but from my encounters with you the vast majority are shockingly incompetent and or butchers. My opinion wasn’t great before I had kids but having had a few babies and experiencing that I now loathe any kind of encounter with any of you.
