That's such a crock of shit, if either of them has changed, it's Karl. Ian's still a quintessential gun nerd, and is still producing the same basic content he has for years, yes production quality is WAY up, and he gets to travel a ton to look at stuff, and yes there's a fair amount of variety now, but he's still, by and large, doing the same history and break downs he always has. He is fascinated by the guns, and has always been as apolitical as possible.

Karl went from a low tier Wehraboo who was more into the practical side of how the guns and gear were used in the field, to a butt hurt crybaby because Ian wouldn't go along with sucking troon dick and screeching about it publicly. It's Karl acting like a petulant fucking child over insignificant bullshit, and in going absolutely batty over everything he's made himself a toxic laughing stock with the majority of the gun community. Hang around degenerates enough and eventually you become one. There's no turning back now, Karl only has a few options. Continue to act like a douche and continue to make a laughing stock of himself. I believe Ian's response says it all, Karl didn't deliver on what he promised and so (I'm guessing) 1Shepherd stepped up even more than before. In my head I'm constructing a scenario of fat @SinistralRifleman busting the barrier they had to remove by trying to ooze over it and that being the last straw for 1Shepherd and Ian or some shit. He never even finished his underground railroad series. Like a lot of his historical videos, he had interesting takes but his audio and production was shit (Karl is a professional YouTuber). Several of Karl's videos could have gone viral, eg 'The Danziger Bridge shooting' or the Salina POW massacre. His low production quality will have been a major reason why people didn't want to share them.

I mean remember when he set his camera up wrong for a Q and A video so the picture was all distorted and he posted it anyway! Again he's a professional YouTuber. Even if he went on Fiverr to get an editor it would help.

Ian also lined up the sponsors who donated tens of thousands in prizes in exchange for Ian promoting them. To Karl that's just "running the prize table", not driving a significant percentage of all revenue for the event.

Karl is in for a rude awakening when event organizers choose Ian 10 out of 10 times if ever presented with a choice between having one without the other.
