No it is not. Selling drugs online is not the same as freedom of speech. I agree with the older generations perspective. It is like a dispute between branches of the same family. It is a civil war that just hasn't ended yet. Being a civil war is one reason the West should stay the hell out of it, the evolution of a nation and its people needs to occur naturally without external interference. Of course, the West (and by West I mainly mean America) that isn't likely to happen because there is way too much money and necessary infrastructure for western businesses tied up in Taiwan. It also doesn't help that in the many conflicts the US has insinuated itself into the other side has been supported by other external powers. After WWII there should have been an understanding made between the US and the USSR that there would be no external interference in the natural course of civil events in other nations. Obviously that ship sailed and sunk a long, long time ago.

Unfortunately for the Taiwanese, we all know how it will end. Their democracy is living on borrowed time that is being lent by the West, but that won't hold out forever.
