Sony hate thread

Translation of the Chinese subtitles:
Yoshi-P:
"I really wish we could unify video game hardware."
(Sounds like quite the dangerous remark...)
Yoshi-P: "Everyone, please band together and buy the same console hardware!!!"
Interviewer: "I really get what you're saying"
Yoshi-P: "Feels like I say this quite often during interviews."
Source is an interview from a Tawainese talk show which was mentioned in a blog article on esuteru (Archive)

Take a wild guess which console hardware he's talking about.

I'm surprised this hasn't been posted, but the PS5 Disc and Digital Edition are now going to be merged into one horrific monstrosity with a detachable disc drive.

The Dimensional Merge of the Console with No Games is a very bold idea, Cotton. Let’s see how well this plays out.

Baldur's Gate is not going to release on Xbox because of this piece of shit.
I mean it is, just not at the same time. The baldurs gate devs have shown they put out a finished product that's feature complete and I'm sure they want that reputation to be cemented. Does the delayed release of third party games on switch mean anything other than they need to scale back to put it on switch? The Hogwarts legacy devs are still making a switch version.

the early prognostication of the effect of the series s so far has been stabbing in the dark and taking the word of developers like WB Montreal when they were trying to explain away their shitty development on Gotham knights. Those same types of devs have been upset all week because fan reaction to baldurs gate 3 being so feature complete at launch and actually a finished product on release.

Somehow, they managed to make it look worse than the original PS5.

What is the point of the detachable disc drive though?
To save money by having only one model to produce.

The point is to single the production line of the ps5 to a single unit type instead of two sku's to save cost. With the removable disk drive the production line can make all ps5's going forward on one production line and the disk drive can be included in the packaging if you want a disk model.

I have a theory they are going to use the refresh to address issues with the console too. They already removed the front USB-A port on the new console for two USB-C ports, which means its likely a problem they are addressing with the refresh. Look for tear down videos comparing it to the previous ps5 to see changes once it releases.

Hopefully the back ports don't melt the connectors' of fighting sticks, like what happened at EVO.

I'm surprised they're not just selling them all as discless, and selling the drive as an extra accessory instead.

I wonder how you'd do that without opening it up to third party competition (like with controllers, for instance) and then blammo the disc players are being sold for ten dollars and thats all your loss.

Firmware-based DRM, same as what Apple does to lock down their crap and prevent third-party repairs
