Eh, he also said the stuff was handled by the lawyers responsible for the intellectual property rights, so the words their lawyers used could have been more confrontational than what the CEO said.

Not saying Eric did or didn’t try and grift off it, but just thinking of other possible explanations.

I think the problem is that he recorded the video about being sued and the statement from the ISOM CEO implies twice that Eric July has ignored them:

"if Mr. July communicates with us"
"which we hope to discuss if he calls us as we requested in our letter"

I think that if they're giving you an offramp to negotiate amicably common courtesy would suggest that July should have sent them some sort of communication, even if it's just "I'm retaining counsel for this matter and we'll be in touch soon", before recording a video to grift off the potential suit on social media.

If we take the most charitable interpretation to Eric, he got the information and was going to work it out, but Dick and Vito blew it up, and he was provoked to respond to them online before he could to the Church people.

What I think it more likely is that he got the letter and mis-understood the scary legalese. He then lashed out at Dick and Vito, and called his lawyers who have probably only recently been able to explain what the letter actually means and that he is NOT being sued yet.

Remember, there are people that think C&D's are legally enforceable.


From the other side, I am sure this statement is carefully crafted by the 'other ISOM'. As a religious myself, these people are obsessed with image and being seen as squeaky clean--even more so in the age where choir boy sodomising priests are a meme. Not that it makes them smarter, because instead of beefing up their legal defences they do dumb shit like waive attorney-client privileges in a civil investigation that is likely to put them on the hook for millions.

Like it or not, the religious are expected to hold a higher standard and even when the rates of offences given are on par with the rest of human society, they get pilloried. The system is the one that is divine, but the members are all too human.

This is why they are trying so hard to appear to be the reasonable ones here. They cannot afford another scandal and probably have boomers on staff that were scared by the news their IP lawyer handed to them.

He should work it out with the charity. It's a no-brainer.

Yeah, he might get a bit of shit for not following through on the vague lawsuit threat against Juju and Pedo, but I think, judging by the deletion we've seen, he's put a bit of fear in them already and reminded everybody what asshats they are.

I think any W Dick and Vito claim here would be probably pretty weak. I think what they really wanted here was ISOM to go scorched Earth, and that clearly doesn't need to happen, nor does ISOM really seem to go there if it can be avoided. Indeed, I think Dick and Vito would probably fume if the lawsuit were averted.

He should apologise and say that he got caught up in it. He acted too hastily, but things are being worked out with very reasonable people at the other ISOM. The detractors did some fucked up shite, but it went nowhere, and they should be ignored by him and his fans.

While it would be entertaining and karmic, it is not likely to happen. Justice is rarely served in lawsuits. Even if you are a fan of the outcome of the Depp trial, remember the amount of money and time that went into it and the still massive PR hit that he took to win.

The suit against Dick and Vito would be worth it to laugh at, but I do not think I hate Eric enough to actively want it to happen. Maybe that makes me a bad Kiwi, but cows suing cows are guilt-free laughs for me.
