Very astute observation. Yeah, I can definitely see trooning out being used as a power play, especially in cases like the ones you described. It probably applies in other contexts as well, like destitute losers and/or deep-end incels trooning out in a bid for acceptance and power. I'd even argue that freaks like Elliot "Dong Gone" Fong Jones might troon out in order to gain more social power (alongside weird creepy sex pest fetish shit, of course). Think about it; do you think Dong Gone would have near as much pull as he does now if he wasn't a troon? Dylan Mulvaney also comes to mind as an example. Sure, his meteoric rise in popularity might have been caused or boosted by the long-nose tribe, but the gist that trooning out gives you clout and power still sticks.

I know someone who did, back in 2016 or 2017, at around 50. Longtime married lesbian (still married to same woman). Exceptionally talented person in their field, has been profiled nationally both for actual professional work and, later, for/including the transition. Wrote a book [about transitioning] that I have been intending to read; it got some coverage. I have immense respect for the person and their intellect and character, so I don't associate the asinine pooner characteristics or inanity we see here with the person I know*. Not an insecure person in the least, nor trivial at all (definitely manlet-sized, though).

*I don't know them as a close personal friend, so obviously can't speak to what life is behind closed doors. But in the context I know them, I saw a total boss, in the best way, and a personable, intelligent, and level-headed person who is successful in personal and professional life.

Do you know if she transitioned because of her field being male dominated? I could imagine someone would transition, like a reverse Rachel McKinnon - the transition isn't to go from mediocre female but many men by default are believed more easily than women.

Who was that famous lady scientist who transitioned (this was decades before it was fashionable) only to find that suddenly she was taken much more seriously? And other scientists would say "hey, your way smarter than your sister" because they assumed that her new persona was a different person and not just the same person after pooning out. I think she died from the side effects of HRT as well, she did lectures on sexism on science after transition so she was self aware by trans standards at least, a lot of modern pooners seem to go out of their way to be misogynists instead to prove how much of a manly man they are.
