This guy just got his entire EA account banned for typing "stfu" in Apex Legends, a free to play online shooter game. He's unable to access any of the other games he bought.

Maybe you could make an argument for not having the right to access a company's servers to play an online game if you violate their ToS or something, but I cannot see how anyone can defend taking away his entire account without providing some way to access the other games he already paid for.

Fuck online services, I hate all of them except for Steam. They all do this shit because they've all gotten too big for their britches. None of them respect the consumer anymore. Discuss the rise and fall of online services in this thread.

dont give live services money if you don't have to. atleast pirate the games you like without supporting those scum companys with money.

Quick rundown on H1Z1? I'm unfamiliar with it.
first original battle royale (100 people spawning on a map and killing each other with guns)

This is good and I am glad the faggot got his account banned.

The only way this shit stops is if people stop giving money to these shitty companies. The drones who eat this shit up deserve to be abused, either the flame will be a learning exercise or agony.

(you get your first fuck up for free, everyone is entitled to learn. But if you continue, in this day and age, you get everything you pay for).

Reminder that gamers, corporations, and gaming culture are garbage and you should actively pray for all of it to collapse and that it's always morally correct to pirate any game because none of these corpos give a shit about you and neither should you
It's sad but I completely agree with this. It's just like Atari abusing their massive power and influence by not even crediting the programmers who created the video games way back when, culminating in E.T. for the Atari 2600 being total dogshit and crashing the industry.

Now I understand why nobody uses the text chat anymore. BF2042, Halo Infinite, etc. every chat box is empty throughout the entire match. The only thing players are allowed to say is: "gg".

When I'm looking through games 99% of the shit that get's released is unappealing even when it's torrented for free.

I recall some shit in Overwatch or League of Legends a few years ago about people being reported for saying "gg" ironically or spitefully, something like that. Probably too ridiculous to take seriously since that doesn't happen anymore, but it's still fucked.

I absolutely loved the freedom on early Xbox Live to say whatever you wanted to your teammates in game and to your opponents in lobbies, like on Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. Recently I looked at the new Modern Warfare 3 remake, or whatever the fuck, on steam. It had a news announcement that they would be using a machine learning algorithm to detect players saying naughty no no words and banning them for it. More than the fact that they'll ban you, I cannot stand that they so brazenly admit to collecting all your voice chat logs and just doing whatever the fuck they want with them. I'm not going to allow that. Never hit "ignore" so fast on a game before.

What gets me is bans/suspensions for violating imaginary rules that only exist in a janny's head.

A guy I used to play Destiny with got automatically banned when they made the switch from using Steam accounts to Bungie accounts. This was about two years ago. His Steam name was some Russian swear word and rather than give him the option to change it, he just got banned. He appealed the ban and got his account back but they changed his name to guardian12945894858 or something like that. Now, there was ample time during the transition to change account names but there wasn't any documentation about what would or wouldn't fly besides the word filter. He figured if it got past the Steam filter it'd be fine. We stopped playing Destiny soon after that for unrelated reasons.

And one for me. Just last week I was suspended for a week in Darktide for having naughty character names. The names made it through the word filter and an entire year of on and off activity. Someone in game got butthurt, reported me, told me they reported me and by the time the map was over, all four characters were renamed and my account suspended. I even looked through the ToS but there was nothing about names as they seem to have faith in the word filter. I was banned for being offensive but all of their clauses relating to offense invoke text or voice chat. Sorry your ToS is half assed.

I don't even bother with chat in dota anymore. Ever since they introduced behavior scores, typing anything is an invitation for lowering your score. If I go back and look at my word cloud, it's a big gg surrounded by slurs.

More people playing games than ever and all the outlets for interaction are either ghost towns or weird deviant bullshit that you can't criticize. I'm feeling just about done with multiplayer anything and getting oh so close to disposing of gaming as a hobby.
