Disney’s “Wish” Fails to Perform at the Box Office

Disney didn’t score big at the box office with its latest animation film, “Wish.”

The studio’s latest film, with Ariana DeBose as the main character and Chris Pine as the big bad, bombed with moviegoers over the holiday break, TMZ reported.

“Wish” only reigned in $31.7 million through the 5-day “weekend, a significant difference to the projected $45-$50 mil over the same 5 days.

The film didn’t do well internationally either, pulling in just $17.3M.

Disney is typically a powerhouse that dominates the box office during this time of year, with releases like Encanto and Coco in the past.

However, this movie, which got good reviews, may have been impacted by the SAG strike. Now it joins the list of other Disney films that didn’t do so well, like ‘Indiana Jones’ and “The Haunted Mansion.”

Why the fuck would you not do a celebration of your literal flagship character Mickey Mouse?
Mickey's finally in the Public Domain. They're not able to (or not confident they can) make shitzillions of dollars of merchandise they don't have full control ove- who am I kidding? They're a soulless corporate husk of the company they used to be.

I love how the media keeps pulling out every excuse in the book but refuse to even mention the fact that disney intentionally burnt a lot of bridges with fans/families or the fact that quite a few boycott them outright for many different reasons. Especially after their declaration to expose children to letter and troon fetish crap since the schools wouldn't. (back during the fight with fla) Or even consider the quality of the movies in an era of even high and "creative" level diversity hires, or shoved in political crap.

I didn't see it because representation is important and I just can't relate to a main character who doesn't look like me.

For the life of me, i can't figure out why people don't use tactics like this against this crap more often!

When the hell are the investors going to start calling for blood? I know that Disney has been able to get away with the illusion of selling out premieres for some time by buying up unsold seats, but that doesn't translate to actual sales. They've ran both Marvel and Star Wars into the ground as well, and those were massive purchases. I haven't seen any kind of advertising for their streaming service as of late either, so I'm thinking they've slashed their budgets on that end as well. What the fuck does Disney even have right now? They put a lot of eggs in the ESG basket, and they still seem to be hesitant to move away from that despite institutional investors evacuating that stance rather swiftly. When the hell will the execs start being crucified? Are the theme parks really making enough of a killing to cover for these constant, massive losses?

It seems like they are at least starting to panic, maybe even feel some heat directly.

That narrative keeps shifting further and further away from "we can't live without being woke"

She even isn't that ugly, it's just the fact she was cast as Snow White... and she isn't white, she's Latina.
Besides there's a much better raceswapped Snow White already out there, it's called Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs.
Her last name is Zegler and her first role was in Steven Spielberg's remake of West Side Story. Her mom may be Colombian but that's not why Hollywood is forcing her as a lead actress.

I would also like to point out a big reason why Super Mario Bros thumped Disney at the box office this year: it was a wholly, 100% family friendly and safe movie.

There were no political agendas (Peach being a bit tougher barely even counts, especially when you see how she was in the 1980’s DIC cartoons), absolutely no crude jokes or overt toilet humor, and overall was about as family friendly of a movie as you can get in this day and age.

A parent could take their kid(s) to Mario and not have to worry about any sort of agenda or “grooming” going on with it. Even the brief scene with Kamek dressed up as Peach was played more for laughs.

With Disney, especially given how they have overt agendas in nearly all of their animated products, a parent has to worry about whether or not it’s going to preach a message their child may not be old or mature enough to receive yet, if at all.

Regardless of how you felt about SMBM, that is an (arguably) objective reason why it managed to succeed as massively as it did. Will Disney pick up on that?

Probably not, which is more laughs for us as Iger and his ilk continue to step on rakes.

There's a good movie in there somewhere. Have the girl win half way through. And then realize people are stupid and wish for dangerous things. She realizes that the villian wasn't that evil and was just trying to prevent shit from hitting the fan if people actually had their way. In the 3rd act, they team up to fix her mistake.
Have every girl wish to be Prom Queen, every boy wish for a T-Rex, etc. Complete chaos. It could be funny and a great life lesson about why we can't all get what we want.
Encanto and Coco were dogshit too.
They were so boring and lifeless. Both movies could have been done in 30 minutes or less without missing any plot points or emotional beats.
Why the fuck would you not do a celebration of your literal flagship character Mickey Mouse?
Mickey Mouse will be racist in 5 years or less. I'm not sure how, but it's coming.
Everything popular when whites were a large majority of American children will eventually become "racist" and/or "homophobic".

The jew infection of Eisner at the top pushed destroying white culture, like not grooming children, a bit too hard and got (((noticed))).
Now you have the israeli (((perlmutter))) proxy fight to keep their “in” and shape public discourse.

Null’s recurring theory on the MATI podcast of just looting shareholders and burning disney, lucasfilm, marvel, pixar, etc into the ground and the millions and millions of budgets ‘mysteriously disappearing’ (totally not being embezzled through (((hollywood accounting))) ) is more and more something to (((notice))).

I thought it was a reference to this:

Then that would be worse, since Fantasia is one of the better orchestrated and animated movies during the time Walt Disney was still around. This “Wish” movie is just a prototypical copy and paste movie with no endearing qualities to it.

Didn’t we get a Disney “renaissance” in the 90’s under Eisner’s tenure? At least the man brought us good movies with white protagonists.

Oh and evey other pages is just a lengthy digression about something else entirely.
thats just most novels of that time. because they were written for maganizes the same way naruto and one piece are the authors really would fill the word count with whatever weird shit they could come up with. Thats a big reason Jules Verne would fill his shit with science stuff like using the taxological name for every fucking fish in 20k leagues. Its like imagine if those stories and sketches in RLM or Nostalgia critic videos ended up being considered the greatest piece of media ever made. It is sort of cool as a style though. like a literature version of lonelygirl15
and so pulled out.
It only did well because asia watched it a lot and the reason they did is because their society is so ass backwards that 1980s style kids stuff about racism is considered groundbreaking there, same with greenbook. Japan a decade ago still considered it shocking when some piece of media said they shouldn't treat orphans as scum even lower than child molesters.
I thought The Princess and The Frog was pretty good.
Genuinely surprised it hasn't gotten a live action remake yet. Its a cult classic of the black community and would probably be the only disney movie where the live action film would gross more money. even SNL had a whole sketch about how great the film was a year or two ago.
, despite its setting.
which is funny if you really think of how little racism there probably is in majority black areas.
It seems like they are at least starting to panic, maybe even feel some heat directly.
Iger is the woke, if you read the story about Chapek's firing it was mostly because of him not supporting the faggots enough. Iger was brought back because unlike Chapek, Iger is a dishonest kike who will always side with the precious minority groups and has a magical ability to bullshit. They even admit thats mostly what Iger does at these meetings and what he and the executive team practice doing. Chapek's the dumb fuck that actually believed in his numbers and at least working off of them when answering questions instead of doing the hot air shit dipshits like you get tricked by. Chapek believed in that whole "its not personal, its just business" and "republicans buy shoes too" bullshit the kikes trick people with, meanwhile the dykes on the board demand you get in a legal battle with the republicans and make statements about how disney loves faggots. As long as jewish dykes are in power over on the board of Disney they will not turn the ship around. they will literally burn it all down rather than give it up same way the jews did with russia during the 20th century.
The jew infection of Eisner at the top pushed destroying white culture
WRONG. Eisner actually likes white society, for fucks sake he saw some redneck from west Virginia playing with a frog corpse and greenlit his entire franchise. He's also the reason Star Trek went from one of many 3 season tv shows from the 1960s to getting another tv series and a fuck load of movies. Eisner loved the parks and understood the need of keeping disney for the kids. Hell he loved american history so much he also almost got a theme park made of it. Baby boomers jews especially from the suburbs like him or spielberg or the cohens or the raimis or the zuckers don't really have a jewish identity so much as an american/baby boomer one. IIRC Eisner even felt like Leave it to beaver was a perfect representation of his childhood when it aired. His biggest crimes were financial problems, but he was always amazing when it came to creating cool shit. Most of the fandom meance types who whine about disney films today fucking love Atlantis or Treasure Planet or other "boys films" and the only reason those exist is Eisner doing his best to keep the Disney cartoon empire which was known for its princesses also accessible to boys, which is a huge reason he pushed for things like a video game featuring Final Fantasy characters plus disney ones or entire tv shows about boys whether they were goofy's son or Shia Labeouf. Despite how much people hate Eisner most of it was because he'd promise the moon and deliver shit. He would never go against families which is probably a big reason the dykes on the board supported firing him 20 years ago.

I know shit about this movie, but I remember the shenanigans on twitter because it's about Muslim-occupied Spain. They made a movie where the colonizers are the good people here.

I dunno what they tried to do with this movie, but there is some implication that Spanish nobility married Muslims? That didn't happen. And why are they portraying moors as black? Moors aren't black. Moors and Souther Spaniards don't look that different.

Didn’t we get a Disney “renaissance” in the 90’s under Eisner’s tenure?
In a manner of speaking, yes. Pretty sure Defunctland bloviates on the entire thing for a whole season, but the long/short is that Eisner was largely responsible for pulling Disney out of the dark ages of the 80's and into the "Disney Renaissance" of the early 90's, starting with The Little Mermaid. He was doing okay-ish for a while, he had bold plans for Disney World's anniversary but somewhere along the way lost control of the plot (park plans that never fully panned out, initial failures like Disneyland Paris, becoming mortal enemies with Jeffrey Katzenberg which led to the creation of DreamWorks Animation, box office failures in the mid 00's that caused the pivot to 3D animation, etc.) and a coup de etat headed by Roy Disney got Eisner booted out and replaced with someone else... not sure if it was Iger, I forget.

In a way, there's some parallels between Eisner's era and the current era: Disney and Pixar had strings of blockbuster hits, the parks were doing well, and they bought Marvel, Muppets (which was what Jim Henson initially wanted to have happen during Eisner's tenure: they even had a huge rollout planned to announce the buyout, but then yanno... Henson died right before it could take place), and Lucasfilm in that order; and then the unstoppable pop culture juggernaut of the MCU really started to take off and dominate the box office and pop culture conciousness. Not unlike how Disney was everywhere in the 90's and could steamroll the competition without blinking. Then came the pandemic, but it wasn't necessarily COVID that's the source of Disney's current woes: if it wasn't pumping out movie after movie in the MCU and trying to apply the same thinking to Star Wars, it was the hard pivot into streaming to compete with Netflix and subsequently biting off way more than they could chew.

(I would also like to add in how they handled the whole James Gunn situation, too: they shot first without thinking and he ended up defecting to Warner Brothers. This is why they have been handling the Jonathan Majors DV issue the way they have, despite mountains of evidence against Majors from exes and people who knew him on Broadway to be a repulsive individual. It's not as bad as WB caping for Ezra Miller, but it's right up there)

The parks are an entirely different behemoth with their own set of problems. Chapek used to be in charge of the parks and he tried to run all aspects of Disney like it was a theme park. Enough said.

And that's not getting into the political side of things: Eisner was largely smart in keeping political matters out of Disney during the 90's, but Iger and Chapek -especially after Chapek double-dog-dared DeSantis over the parental rights/Don't Say Gay bill- have poisoned the well for the average consumer and it will take a long, long time before any trust can be rebuilt there, if at all.

Despite the massive differences between the book and film and change of ending, I felt the film somehow preserved the themes of the book quite well. A modern version won’t even recognize Notre Dame de Paris as a church let alone have more utterances of ‘God’ than any other Disney film. Quasimodo and Esmerelda will be Moslems and Frollo will have a Southern accent.
And Phoebus will be completely useless.
I actually love it. It is a hugely underrated film. Tiana has a JOB and GOALS and is likeable! Her prince is kind of a lazy fuck but he's funny and charming! Their romance is actually really well written! Some of the wypipo are actually good folks!

The frog designs are *chefs kiss*. The animation is lovely. It deserves more love.
It also has the message of working hard to achieve your dreams. Compare that to Dr. Facilier who took the "easy" way by making deals with the voodoo spirits that ended up costing him in the end.
