I'm not WelperHelper but I am a resident Mormon enthusiast. Utah was colonized by them. The Mormons had been expelled from Missouri and then again from Illinois. After Illinois the main body of them trekked to the Great Salt Lake, which was de jure part of Mexico but in effect just Indian land like most of the West was. They established their own state with the intention of joining the US, but in practice it was an unrecognized nation until the American military conquered it (Deseret). That region (Utah and the bordering regions of Utah's neighbors) is effectively their homeland as their religious identity took full shape in it.Did Mormons take over Utah or was it given to them? What makes Utah a hit Mormon spot?
If you're familiar with it, they're like America's Boers in some ways.
