Anyone get into the Arena beta yet? Is it fun?
I got in, and I had fun for about 7/10ths of my games. The biggest problem I see right now is that Arena is supposed to be an 'e-sports ready competitive shooter', but the disparity between the first kits you unlock, and the kits that you unlock after 15 hours is INSANE. The starter kits are all like level 2 armor and scav guns, but once you get about two tiers into unlocks, you get a fucking M4 with a hundred round mag and level 4 armor. Not exactly the smartest balancing for a competitive shooter.

But outside of that, when you get in a match that isn’t completely unwinnable, it’s exactly what I imagined and we had so much fun. Just be ready for some premium cock and ball torture along with the fun, it is Tarkov after all.

I am fucking seething that those russian niggers haven't let me in to arena yet

All my friends have it.

0.14 so far has been one of the overall best patches in the game's history. The recoil change makes full auto in non-meta guns viable again and a kiddie pool of a map helps ensure there is a place you can go early on without having to worry about some +50 level chinese player doing head-eyes thru a bush. It also is important to note that armor coverage now matters so turbo-sweats can be killed by simply shooting where the vest isn't.

My nigga have you tried spawning in on that map?

Yes, and you won't die if you take a minute or two getting a vibe of the situation and wait for the brainless people to shoot each other.
Besides that one troll spawn where they spawn you ten inches in front of a mine field lmao.

I love Ground Zero, personally, but I feel like I would’ve hated it if I were a noob.

I haven't played in a while - last update I played actively in was the Customs expansion with the railyard/intel building - the cheater controversy kept me away from EFT but so far I haven't seen any obvious cheaters. The update is great except the fact I can't play as a fucking Scav - I get stuck in permanent loop of waiting for a match while some gay ass streamers seem to not experience same issue, currently I'm drained out of money as I didn't want to go into 'gear fear' too much and I can't recuperate without occasional free scav run (perhaps it is skill issue).

Recoil update makes pistols really enjoyable to use now. Ground Zero is probably a map with top of the engagement in PVP (Labs and Reserve perhaps come close) which makes going through quests unnecessarily insufferable.

New and more realistic recoil mechanics are so much nicer now, you can actually take pot shots without your gun going into the air, I don't know what the fuck they were thinking with the previous system now that we have this. I actually feel like I'm in a lot more control with gunfights and makes me want to play more aggressively, which is probably a horrible idea in EFT lol. I'm also impressed with how fast they implemented the new recoil into Arena, which made the game infinitely more interesting and appealing to me, after the 1.4.1 patch I got access to Arena and it's really fun, but like TTD said, the current balancing in the game is pure aids, but when you get those good plays and matches, the game is really fun. Tarkov in general is probably in the best place its been for awhile.

I got some extra criticisms for Arena, though...
  • The game needs some kind of Tutorial or hint system, I was able to figure things out just by clicking around but there's some retards out there who won't be able to figure shit out without them being told directly.
  • Give me the ability to look at the player list/scoreboard when I'm dead and spectating.
  • If someone doesn't accept a match, take them out of matchmaking, I feel like I keep matching up with the same people who are just AFK and it gets annoying having to wait 10 minutes for a match to start up.
  • Allow me to mute people, haven't encountered anybody annoying, but it's just a feature that every online FPS game has. (I know you can disable VOIP, but I don't want to cut off comms from my whole team just because of one guy.)
  • Settings synching up with EFT is nice, but I wish they would keep the binds separate, since Arena has the radio button, and EFT doesn't. Meaning I have to rebind shit every time I log into one of the games.
  • Less of a criticism and more of a worry, are character stats going to be included with match making? People who exclusively play EFT can hop into a fresh Arena game and dominate lower ranked players with high as fuck stats possibly.
HOLY FUCK GUYS THERE'S SNOW IN TARKOV!!!!!
The snow is super cool, its also makes it really easy to tell if someone is outside or not in maps like Ground Zero with the crunching of the snow. I can't wait to see what else they got in store for weather effects.

IMO it takes such a long time for character stats to develop that if said person goes to Arena, they already do know how the game works simply by having the hours to know how hard they can rock anyone's world if they want to.

As for the snow, I criticize Battlestate for not having footprints in them.

I think he mentioned that in the current setup it's a little bit grindy?
Adding onto this, not only does the EXP requirements get really fucking grindy, especially if you're shit at the game or get matched up in skewed matches, you'll earn more around 3k-4k EXP instead of around 7k-8k depending on how you preform during combat, but the progression tree is extremely linear. If the tree branches off into two classes, and one of them stops at a dead end, you will not contribute XP to the other tree, which makes grinding a hell of a lot more annoying and tedious.

I prefer the Bunker loadout compared to The Ram, Bunker is much more fun as you can play a lot more aggressively with the automatic AKM and T4 armor, along with being able to hear footsteps with the headset at the cost of head protection. But I can't play it if I want to progress, I am forced to play The Ram which significantly reduces the fun I have with the game, since I am not progressing if I play Bunker, I am just grinding (or losing) money and nothing really else since character stats aren't shared with EFT yet.

I thought the same, but I guess footprints are pretty resource-intensive. I remember hearing that Vikendi in PUBG used to have footprints, but they would destroy your FPS. I'm guessing that was their thought process.

Yep, you nailed it on a lot of my complaints. The settings being synchronized is more a hinderance than anything now that all the fucking keybinds got defaulted anyways (still seething about my keybinds). At least give us an option to turn it off.

I fully agree that this is the best state Tarkov has been in since I started back in the 10.7 days. I'm getting boned this wipe, feel like I'm getting one-tapped more than ever, but it's been fun.

Oh hey there's snow in a game set in Russia and full auto isn't wildly inaccurate anymore. Ground zero is alright as a map but it's kind of annoying having to learn a whole new map after a wipe.

It's true, but that map they put out was actually really nice to use. I didn't have too much trouble overall. Glad it was only for the first few quests.

The first time I played the map I ran out of spawn and died. The spawns are seriously terrible.

:story: yeah man i heard that could happen. Never experienced that, somehow. I did lose a teammate to the office with a claymore inside though LOL. That was funny as fuck. We had just told him to beware, too. But yeah, spawning people like a foot from the mines is insanely poor game design.

It reminded me of back when I started the game and I ran into landmines on Woods. I'm happy that newer players get to suffer as I had suffered in Tarkov as it will make them stronger.

Alright kiwi frens, let’s start some discussion:

What is everyone’s play style? Are you a level grinder or do you play for fun only? Solo rat? Solo chad? What’s your preference for group size? Favorite maps? Favorite guns?

How’s this wipe treating everyone? I’m level 17 now. Wish I wasn’t stuck at my job or I’d be grinding still. 45% SR.

(Obviously, with the addition of ‘view profile’, this could be considered deanonymizing information so if your profile is a common name for you, maybe don’t share too much!)
