Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

I need an adult! It's one of them lizard people. He was acting higher than a kite the whole time.

It really does look like a Dreamworks show that would have aired on Nickelodeon in the early 2010s. Jimmy Neutron came out like 20 years ago and it’s animation is still better looking than this. How can something look this horrible in 2024. (I'm just asking rhetorically or whatever, I know the answers, all right.) I knew this was going to be a dog of a project when it was announced part of the plot involved "his new hero's quest to become a social media influencer". It's like if they made the sequel in 2010 and focused on Meganmind's quest to boost visits to his Blogspot page. Not that I'm a Megamind fan but it was a film that it told it’s story from start to finish. Nobody asked for a continuation of it, let alone one with the titular protagonist becoming a social media influencer. It's a plot point that's going to age like raw meat left on a kitchen counter. Just letting projects that didn't call for a follow-up stand on their own is lost to our media folks who seek out any IP to spin into a franchise.

You can blame modern YouTube and their breadtuber shitty essay videos for reviving a sole movie like Megamind from the dead. It's a good movie, but yes that's the thing, it never needed a sequel or even a huge franchise. It may have a short film for its home video release, but even then that's as far as it's gonna go.

Weren't there talks for a sequel a long time ago, or even a TV series? If it had done well at the box office, they would've gone full speed ahead with it.

EDIT: My brother's mentioning he heard about it in 2019, it was supposed to be a TV series that was put on hold by Covid. That's why it looks like shit.

It's shit like this that screams, "how do ya do fellow kids"
Boy did I pick a bad time to come back to this thread.

Look I don't hate ruby Gillman...I don't like it that much either at best I can call it DreamWorks second shark tale only instead of finding Nemo they're ripping off Luca. And I can at least give them credit for making a new ip instead of digging up Shreks ogre corpse for Shrek 5 or Kung fu panda 4. Some have been saying (in circles outside the farms) that it might do better as a show instead of a movie..and frankly giving a new ip a second chance in different form? Better than digging up what was essentially a done in one story and trying to desperately recapture your glory days.

What's next? A way too late to cash in on the bee movie meme? With a sequel or show? Despite Jerry sienfelds refusal to do a sequel I doubt dreamworks/universal will care.

Paramount doesn't distribute DreamWorks movies since 2012, as Universal owns all theatrical and home video rights to these properties. Also, I doubt DreamWorks (or even Jerry Seinfeld himself) would ever make Bee Movie a franchise as they even acknowledged that it's a 90-minute shitpost.

Giant corpos have been hellbent on collecting BlackRock money than actually be original with ideas. Plus, if anyone works in the industry just for the money, then they're best bet is to work as a pharmacist instead
