Community Munchausen's by Internet (Malingerers, Munchies, Spoonies, etc) - Feigning Illnesses for Attention

I've met veterans and autismos with trained, certified anxiety therapy dogs who behaved perfectly (the humans and the dogs). IMO that's fine. The dog just sits quietly by the human's side unless it's needed. It's not strapped to the human's chest like a cluster B phylactery, yipping and biting everyone.

These were also people with recorded histories of real medical conditions who were trying to interact with the world in meaningful ways. I don't think that Ask A Manager munchie really intended to get the job, or she would've, you know, prepared for the interview. She just wanted an excuse to throw her hands up and say "I've tried to get a job, but it didn't work!"
Wtf is a “certified anxiety dog”?!

Like you feel anxious, you pet it. Isn’t that just a regular dog?

My cat loves to snuggle. Sometimes when I have the sads. Does that make her a certified cat therapist?

This is why shutting down the pill mills was a bad idea. It made the problem so much worse. Instead of letting people go to their mill and getting their 60 OC 30s a month, you now now have a bunch of people stealing shit to buy fent.

Friendly reminder that every time the government tries to do something to stop the opiate epidemic, it only makes it CERTIFIABLY WORSE.

Case in point: When Purdue Pharma made their new “abuse proof” OxyContin pill in the 2010’s.

Soon insurance companies would only pay for the abuse proof kind, Medicaid and state insurances likewise.

And since it also meant that Purdue could renew their patent on OxyContin, the price for a monthly prescription soon skyrocketed to 5 or 6 hundred dollars.

As a result, and since these were the only thing you could get, many addicts switched from OC to heroin since it was much cheaper. And plenty of seniors could only afford their prescription by selling some on the side.

So chronic fatigue chicks are starting to off themselves openly.
Fucking wild that she just gets put down like a rabid dog.

Note in the article that her own doctor said that he “wouldn’t be able to sign the application because of her psychological co morbidities.”

In other words, they knew she was crazy, but still rubber stamped the death sentence.

Wild!

Petting even an unknown dog provided similar benefits to a person interacting with their own dog.

Cats > Dogs, so it makes sense that you are now pretty much immortal, congrats and give them a pet from me.

Also going to extrapolate that this means that 'muh cumpaynyun pibble' is bullshit and there should just be therapy llamas for public use.

TPD! :heart-full:

In the United States, anyway, the guidelines for using beta blockers in asthmatic patients are still unclear, and some physicians are willing to prescribe them while others are not.
They will give you propranolol here with asthma
This is why they'll tell people in recovery from restrictive eating disorders to avoid future dieting attempts: something in the brain's wiring or chemistry is just fundamentally wrong, and they can't diet just a little bit. It's all or nothing.
It’s permanent as well. A history of serious eating disorders lowers seizure threshold.

Rambling ahead sorry.
CF is an odd one. Also someone mentioned post Lyme and long Covid and my opinion is this: some of these patients do have something. Most infections can potentially cause long term issues in some people. The vast majority get better with time and rest (more on that in a moment) but for some there genuinely seems to be something long term going on. It’s VERY hard to look at though because the ratio of genuine to malingerer is so off.
After the 1917 flu epidemic there was a follow on issue with encephalitis lethargica. Some people are pushing the idea that this was due to infection with a second agent but whatever it was it seems to have been a permanent effect from a transient illness. It can happen.

Obviously 95% of them have something else going on, from somatisation to munching for pleasure and profit, but CF is t totally made up.

Back to resting - I’ve been around quite a bit of illness the last few months and one thing that’s really struck me is how society reacts to people being unwell. I’ve a friend at the moment who’s down with coof or flu, she doesn’t know what but she’s floored by it. Work are calling her to guilt her into coming back. She’s running a fever and her family are guilting her into going to centre parcs for a family do. She’s not allowed to REST.
Our way of dealing with mental and physical illness in the west is really strange IMO. People have a need to go through a process - sickness, acknowledgment, recovery and rest, return to wellness. Some cultures have more ritualised behaviours about this (like new mums resting for thirty days etc.) we don’t. I’d bet you that places where there’s a ritualised process have fewer munchies

This entire thread is an answer to why, Because if you give people an inch they will take a mile. The American attitude has always been quit complaining and get back to work and that's why we're in the position we are in in the world.

Yeah I get that. I guess I’m looking at it from the perspective of someone who when they get a bad cold just has to get up and go to work and pick the kids up from school and blah blah even when they’d like to go to bed and stay there for a day or two. I think rest is needed, and we don’t allow it. The ritual allows that but also has the requirement to get back up at the end of it, that’s what I mean. It imposes a limit on the behaviour.

The Munchie Ebeggar door dash industrial complex MUST be exposed.

Love that the researcher who studied this was named "Barker"

What's a "ESA"? Is that some kinda therapy dog?
They would like you to think that but it's a very different thing.

Service animal has stated tasks for a stated difficulty/disability. ESA gives munchies hugs and then they feel less anxious, just like 99% of other humans when they stroke a friendly mammal. It's a very nebulous job that most animals perform and some humans use as a way to try to force their bosses/landlords to let them drag around pets they otherwise mightn't be allowed to keep or take places with them.

I know it’s not exactly “Munchausen by Internet”, but it’s a horrible story nonetheless. This poor girl lost a leg because her mother wouldn’t stop lying and the channel looking at the story seem to consider themselves big shots in ‘law”. I dunno, but it’s an interesting story. There was NOTHING wrong with this young girls leg, but it was amputated due to the mothers lies. The girl is grown now and an EMT which is what she had wanted to be her whole life and is very happy.

Of course, if she’d still had her leg she would have been eligible for the firefighters. She isnt. Thanks to her mother. That was her ultimate goal. But she seems happy, she’s working a job she loves AND UNDERSTANDS, and she cannot sue her mother because of statute of limitations and shit.
She’s finding things rough at the moment because of Statutes of limitations and failings in her medical records. She seems to ham no legal recourse….and that’s it.

The lies of her mother cause her to have a lower leg amputation at 16 yrs old. No. No real reason. Just Mom’s insistence. She was bound to a wheelchair for years and is now being compared to Gypsy.

The Other Gypsy: Her story is different but I feel needs exposure just as Gypsy’s story does.

What started as a good campaign because it was a sad case Link has been over taken by munchies.
Will people ever learn that being an "expert by experience" is pretty much a honeypot for narcs and grifters? Any time you gas someone up as an expert just for existing and not anything they put effort into, this kind of thing is going to happen. It's like when random black women or troons are asked to be speakers on diversity and all they do is talk about themselves and ask people to give them money.

I like this person thinks they are sick enough to go to the ER but they're also confident that they will get discharged and still have time for a fast food run after. Why are you going then?

Slight Daddy Crisp correction but seems like he’s mainly getting these training roles as an Expert by Experience which isn’t particularly difficult to get.

My Partner works for the NHS and had to attend one of these Oliver McGowan trainings. In a room filled with Doctors and various other NHS staff one of these “experts by experience” came on and complained that clocks in GP Surgeries are triggering and should be removed. Also, they said that autistic people should get a pre doctors appointment chat for an hour so they can feel more comfortable at the real appointment. Naturally, by the end none of the staff gave a fuck. What started as a good campaign because it was a sad case Link has been over taken by munchies.
Oh gosh I hope I get Daddy Crisp delivering my Oliver McGowan training. That would be my favourite crossover ever.

@Suspicious Activity
I can't quote you but that story of the Munchausen by proxy victim made me think of transgender children.
The Mother was pushing for medical/surgical escalation before it was necessary, gaslighting the child, and pushing for hideous medical intervention that SHE wouldn't have to endure. Also, maybe especially, the fact that the doctors documented the fact that the surgery was objectively unnecessary and still went ahead and mutilated the child. Another victim of the removal of 'first do no harm' from the hippocratic oath...

I hate the fact that extremely high functioning autistics - and outright fake autistics - are the ones delivering the majority of this "lived experience" type of training.

By nature, anyone with disabling levels of autism wouldn't be able to give such training, and if they were, they wouldn't have the energy or means to be able to do it this frequently.

It means that normies are getting an extremely skewed perspective of what autism is. They should know the full spectrum of autism, not just twats preaching from their ivory towers about the most trivial nonsense, while proselytizing that autism isn't a disability, disorder or disease. Yeah, that's very easy to say, when there's actually fuck all wrong with you, you Munchie piss taker.

It also gives false hope to parents of children with severe autism. A majority of the children/adults in the school I worked in had severe autsim and the parents always thought their kids would make it to the attached behavioral high school because of people like jenny mcarthy and such stating it was curable or no big deal.
