Sony hate thread

Oh, nobody's posted it here yet?

SIE had some big layoffs last night. Bye-bye London Studio, makers of trash. Glad it wasn't Bend or MM.
Something like 8% of the Playstation side of things got cut. Insomniac was hit too, which makes me happy because that means Spider Man 2 was not well received after all.

History repeats itself. Sony had the best portable handheld with the Vita and look how they totally neglected it. Same thing is happening with their VR hardware.
PSVR is a fool's errant as long as it's chained to the playstation and it's gimped walled garden. by now it's obvious that VR a niche for enthusiasts, not a mainstream money-maker. it has a different market dynamic. even the zucc with all the money it shoveled into it couldn't make it mainstream profitable, it's simply not there yet.

I mean kudos for doing it and refining the tech, but as it stand most people have zero incentive to pick a PSVR2 unless they _maybe_ already own a ps5. and given what happened with PSVR1 it would also be a bad longterm "investment", something enthusiasts are more aware of.

I mentioned a few pages ago that there was a Twisted Metal game that was supposed to coincide with the television show. Looks like its cancellation was official today. Not a big loss though as it's being reported that it was a 'live service game' and focused heavily on multiplayer.
didn't sony go balls deep into that shit with like 22 live service games in production? with bunghole eating more of it's own shit than usual and customers getting more and more tiredd of that shit sounds like a great investment. like that genius "blockbusters only"...

I don't entirely agree but I see what you're saying.

VR on PS5 could and should have been something special. Exclusive games on exclusive hardware will always be a draw because rarity and scarcity, as well as FOMO, are the best driver of sales behind sex.

Sony could have supported VR with enough must-have games that the price point would be moot. They didn't.
I mean for fuck sake, they didn't even launch a PSVR2 version of destiny, a game made by a studio they own.
What the fuck are they thinking?!? Destiny vr2 should have been a flagship launch title for the device.

At this point, Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo should be kicked out of the industry for severe retardation, or, three new, non-american competitors should join in.

It's obvious that the western corruption, greed and rot of silicon valley has ruined anything related to tech.

VR has no real future in video games and it was a foolish move to release a 2nd PSVR.

Edit: And I know someone is going to post an autistic disagreement but come on
  1. no parent wants their child wearing a display strapped to their face
  2. 2/3 of adults wear glasses making wearing ski goggles on top a pain
  3. you have to wall yourself off from society
  4. 98% of VR games are fucking Wii tech demos in virtual reality
  5. they could give them away with a free blowjob and nobody would buy the games for it

you are aware almost all your points apply to videogames in general, right?

that would require money and talent, something sony isn't willing to invest on the software side for some reason, and lacks the talent in the first place (just look at the shit sony produces even for normal gaming)
besides some higher profile versions of existing stuff, kinda like alyx did it, they'd have to find the killer app people have been looking for 8+ years now. destiny for example still has the issue with movement like any VR fps.

and fuck, I'm pretty sure sony doesn't even allow you to watch porn via that thing, let alone "games".

VR would be more interesting if it was more intricate. I'm talking full-body tracking suit, omnidirectional treadmill thing for movement, 4D effects (wind, water, heat, shaking, etc), the works.

VR is what arcades should have evolved into, experiences you realistically can't get at home.

that would require money and talent,
I have a theory on that and not just aimed at sony but the industry in general.

I think the reason that games aren't being made, or ones that take forever to come out, is because there isn't the talent to make games anymore. The ones that do get made and take 5+ years, is because a very, very small pool of talented people basically build the game themselves while the rest mooch and steal a pay check.

Bungie is the prime example of this. 5 years and 500 million dollars to make a game worse than any other Halo and graphically inferior to ones nearly a decade old. What's the demographic that makes up Bungie? Feckless, useless, talentless, ambition-lacking youngster.
Yeah they are danger hair tranny faggots but that's a smoke screen.

Woke as an excuse for what the industry has become, is to cover the fact that the industry is fucking talentless.

Yesteryear: games designed by engineers, hobbyists, people who had lives outside of the games they made

Today: games designed by people farted out of game design colleges, those very ones that ran commercials where they needed to "tightened up the graphics" on level 3. Remember when that commercial was a meme?

Didn't they say some stupid thing last year about how they thought turn-based combat was dead? Meanwhile, Like a Dragon 8 and Persona 3 Reload just sold gangbusters.
It was Yoshi-P specifically. He was explaining why the series decided to abandon its decades of traditional turn-based combat in FF16, which he was the producer for. It was basically "younger generations don't want that" (read as: we want to make more money). FF16 sold 3 million copies in its first week compared to FF15's 5 million copies. Famitsu also reported that FF16's Japanese sales dropped 90% in its second week too, mainly because the Japanese fans were really upset with Yoshi-P over FF16. The cherry on top was that not even two months later, Baldur's Gate 3 came out and printed money.

Baldur's Gate 3 came out and printed money.
pretty sure that was because the bearfucking and graphics, not the turn-based combat. lot of people would even prefer RTwP over it. for most normalfags turn-based is boring and tedious.

the sales numbers are also a bit disingenuous. FF16 is a console exclusive with a shit adoption rate, especially in japan.

It sold well because it's a Baldur's gate sequel made by Larian - the most talented isometric RPG team in decades.

props to the ATOM devs and InXile. Wasteland 3 was great

>PlayStation's finally back to publishing games.
>Firing all the groomer retards that used the PlayStation brand to promote their dumb politics.

Absolutely based. Helldivers 2 had a budget that's nowhere near the typical triple-A movie slop and was way more successful and profitable. I bet this made Sony re-evaluate their whole strategy and thus finally decided the smart thing to do is tell the wannabe filmmakers to take a hike.

It looks like PlayStation's new leadership has finally started fixing the company. I don't think it's :optimistic: to point out that this is a positive change.

The games industry is just a microcosm of all industry in this respect. Essential institutional knowledge is dying in every field and it's caused by a combination of terminally-useless workers and companies believing that training is somebody else's problem.

It's hard for companies to find employees worth investing in and it's hard for good employees to find companies willing to invest the money and time to teach them. We're legitimately going to find ourselves in a post-industrial world because nobody cared enough to pass on the entire corpus of human knowledge.

Apparently after Jim Ryan went to Playstation London for his going away party and came back he announced that everyone in the London division would be losing their jobs.

:story:
Let me just say that this month is the most interesting, especially for Sony. I'm still not holding on hope, the company lost its quality since the early-2010s and it took them until now for its gaming division to get their heads out of their asses. Maybe they could turn things around, but I doubt they'll be as good as back in their glory days
