The best part is Josh is almost certainly getting a dopamine hit himself every time he checks his forum-wide high reaction score, the daily forum logins, his followers/engagement on Twitter, or his viewer count on his streams. He doesn't care about individual reactions in the same way that bossman jack doesn't care about 50 cent bets anymore. Diminishing dopamine returns.

I think he shouldn't care that other users are using this site in a dopamine loop. In fact, he should encourage it because a dopamine drip objectively drives engagement and grows the site, which in turn feeds his dopamine drip when he sees the # of site users tick up. It's a symbiotic relationship.

It was my understanding that the stickers were for giving posters direct feedback without shitting up a thread with substanceless posts like "I agree, that's horrifying, or that's dumb".

Now, unless you go back and look at your post you have no clue the engagement it's getting. So if someone is being retarded they're more apt to continue being retarded, never having witnessed all the trashcans.

The way I see it since I'm no longer directly engaging with a user then there's no point to use stickers at all besides triggering a highlight .

Cheese war had no lasting impact on the site, the board that was made was removed. This sticker war has resulted in a new sticker. Not sure what to make of this. We will have to wait and see the lasting impacts of all these brother wars.

On the sticker question (SQ) I have a couple of thoughts. I like them and I think they're fun, and they're a good way to get immediate feedback for how your post is received. But I don't think getting rid of them would hurt the site very much. You could make an argument they're like reddit downvotes -- not nearly as penalizing, but certainly can be used that way. I don't know if I agree with that argument myself, but it's certainly a valid viewpoint. There's also the problem of notification spam. You check your notes to see if you got a reply or a thread you're following is active, not to see some sperg flood you with hats and forks in outlets. I gotta say, it's always a little disappointing to check my notes expecting some new content, only to see it's just some likes for an old one.

I also really fucking hate the "special" stickers that almost nobody can use, but are just casually laid out on the bar anyway for everybody. It's really jank and kind of annoying.

This movie was made in 1975. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture. Even Hollywood acknowledged he was telling the truth and doing so with brilliance. Okay, I think you’ve gone way to philosophical with your watching. It’s a movie satire of the cynical forces of media, money and international corporations on society, not Heidegger’s Being in Time. It’s about corporate and human accountability in the media.

However Chayefsky’s handwritten note on early scripts probably sun it up best, “the destruction of a buccaneering independent TV HOTSHOT by surrendering his identity, patriotism and self to the dehumanized multinational conglomerate” — nothing less than “FAUST + MEPHISTOPHELES today.”

This does leave me the opportunity to mention the Howard Beale character’s announcement he was going to blow his brains out live on-air was actually inspired by anchorwoman Christine Chubbuck who did just that in 1974 while Paddy was working on his script.
