Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

My brother said Toriyama had not much to give creatively anymore.

Is it true? Was he really involved with the latest projects?

I always got the impression that they showed him the scripts and designs and he approved them 99% of time ralely rejecting them or being negative.
Sometimes he would do one character design or two but that was about it.

Not gonna pretend I really give a shit about anime or Manga, but the original Dragon Ball would usually make it chuckle if I stumbled upon it randomly on TV. However, I loved the Dragon Warrior series on the NES & Chrono Trigger on the SNES, so this one hurts.

As someone who admittedly stopped watching Dragon Ball Super since I disagreed with the idea of Frieza and Majin Buu turned into good guys at one point in the series, I can at least be honest and say that this is one of the funniest scenes that I’ve seen in the anime:

I laugh at this for the fact that I knew that even if Toriyama didn’t draw most of the time on this, he absolutely came up with this idea being shown.

That‘s just how he rolled, and I’m okay with that.
Apologies for the dub, by the way.

Pretty sure because of that dumb ass Hollywood movie he came out of Dragon Ball retirement to write the movies and supervise his prodigy on the Super manga. The latest DB thing in the works was a pet project of his as well.

That sucks. What a pity so many people I know called it a masterpiece, I really hoped it would get properly finished.

In that case I don't think I should even read the 364 chapters, no? I mean, even worse than never experiencing something great, is to experience it just enough to create an emotional bond with it and then have it taken away without proper closure.

The knowledge I will never see its end would eat me away.
Don't let them ruin it for you. It's not the same without Miura, but it's not THAT bad. Mori is probably still adjusting to it. The issue people have is how little dialogue there is in the 10 or so chapters he's done so far. "They don't understand Guts' character" is a retarded take that I can't really explain without spoiling half the story. If it doesn't pick up in the next arc (It was in the middle of a transition when Miura died) then I'll let the perpetually angry at everything crowd get their W, but it's to soon to tell.

Give it a go. 363 chapters of actual grade A kino with some okay continuation by the mans friend.

And if you are of the opinion that the new chapters are unreadably bad, then the last Miura chapter is almost a perfect ending anyway.

Hearing 'If you can visualize it perfectly you can do it that's magic full stop' over and over again is getting a little grating in Frieren

But "It's dark, it's scary!" will never get old

Is it some cultural meme? They have the same delivery in Urusei Yatsura

It's most likely a direct reference to Mendou from Urusei Yatsura. Mendou doing that in the remake isn't an original thing, Akira Kamiya did that when he did Mendou in the 80s version. Both Frieren and UY were published by Weekly Shounen Sunday which isn't direct confirmation but it's close enough. I didn't even know it was a direct reference to UY until I saw the scene in the anime.

Yes and no
I think he started to get more hands on again with battle of gods in 2012, however someone correct me if I'm wrong but while he did make plenty of one shots and shorts he never made another full series outside of the DB universe after it ended.
I know there was no reason for him to do so since he was probably filthy rich, but I can think of a half dozen or so mangakas in a somewhat lesser position where they could of lived of it's royalties for the rest of their lives off of one or two of their popular series but continued to make new series afterwards.

Some idiot tried to call Toriyama a racist and IMMEDIATELY got utterly humiliated.

One of the Sweet Baby Inc employees recently did this too.
Voice of Maruko also passed away

Not a very good week for the anime industry

Santa Akira lives on

Account got suspended, then unsuspended. It's locked now.
Dragon Ball may have fallen in quality in recent time (with several key exceptions), but this is still AKIRA TORIYAMA! You do not disrespect a man that has managed to define nearly three decades of anime and manga for a global audience. Give this an autistic badge, I don't care, but Toriyama has earned the level of reverence he is getting in these trying times. I am so sick of these smug faggots!
