This thread has never behaved as a lolcow thread. It's always been an appreciation and "in the hope he cows out" thread. It's not like going into the Tomlinson thread and defending his position that everyone making fun of him is going to enjoy prison.

This isn't the only example of such a thread. The Terry Davis thread was generally respectful of him even while he was alive and has been an active memorial thread since.
