Most likely, your config files were subtly different from the old, working config files that were wiped and no longer existed.
This is 100% on OpenWRT. I followed the instructions in their documentation, I used the GUI that they give me and expect me to use. On the previous version, I followed the instructions and the WLAN interfaces binded to the bridge interfaces just fine. After an update and reset, I followed the exact same instructions, and now the interfaces won't bind.
I was not to expect that this wouldn't work. This is what OpenWRT presented to me, this is what I did, it didn't work, there was no disclaimer that between updates those guides may stop working and I won't be able to configure my hardware the same way. This is an OpenWRT issue, not a user issue.
And once more:
Mental Outlaw is a grifter that doesn't know what he's talking about.
This was the core argument, and this entire derail is irrelevant to that point. He dug out some old shitty router, commented himself following a guide without any preparation whatsoever, and the moment he installed the firmware he cut it there. He didn't show what features OpenWRT has, or features that it has but proprietary firmware didn't,
anything to show how OpenWRT is better besides "it's FOSS", but he didn't, he cut it the very moment he opened up LuCI to show it was running OpenWRT now. I only brought up my experiences with it as a counterargument to the perfect vision of OpenWRT he presented.
And this is his MO in every video. He finds a FOSS project that's an alternative to a proprietary project, so we have the good FOSS and evil proprietary dynamic that was all you could read from my post. Then he makes a half-assed video where he spends barely any time on the thing he's promoting, overly praises it, downplays any shortcomings he encounters, and repeat ad nauseam. He's not a voice of reason, his recommendations are worthless. That was the entire argument.
Who are you to claim anyone is retarded when you're using youtuber recommendations for your router firmware and then blaming THEM when you fuck it up? Very funny.
I- I really don't know what to say. Are you just purposefully misrepresenting what I said at this point?
No, I did not install OpenWRT just because Mental Outlaw showed it off.
His video came out three months ago, I had that TP-Link with OpenWRT on it for years.
I bought it to replace my ISP's router, but couldn't fully replicate the config that I needed with it.
Then I installed OpenWRT on it, that also didn't help.
I got the MikroTik and it's firmware was capable of replicating that config.
The TP-Link went on unused until I decided to turn it into an access point.
Then the events that I described at least twice now happened and OpenWRT fucked up.
Those were my experiences with it that I had before Mental Outlaw made a video on OpenWRT.
And if anyone will keep insisting that it was somehow my fault, just remember that you're the real reason why FOSS is being kept down. Not the troons, not the corporate meddlers, it's you, the community that blames FOSS' issues on anything but the FOSS.
