Well played David, well played. I'm sure E. A. Poe could write a nice short story about my ensuing musical-ghost-of-the-past insanity.every time you listen to Alcest, you'll be reminded of Byuu.

A month after Byuu killed himself, somebody wrote a question on the Skeptics StackExchange asking for evidence. The "answer" was the same regurgitated bullshit from Hector Martin. I thought I would check on it now to see if somebody answered it properly with the FOIA documents in hand...

Oh, fuck you. What's the fucking point of locking it? Now it can't be corrected with supporting documentation.
Fuck Stack Exchange. Easily the worst site to get answers on the Internet.
That explains it.Locked to avoid repeated misgendering. Flag if you have a different edit to make.

He burned every bridge in every community until he had a very tiny circle of internet friends. No IRL associates, probably because the ones he did have in the US he stole games from all for an emulator nobody gives a shit about. No IRL associates in Japan because he doesn't speak the language at a conversational level, just enough to not be a nuisance, which makes moving to Japan even stranger.
The individual behind byuu's version of Bahamut Lagoon is the guy behind many Shin Megami Tensei and Go For It Goemon translations, known as TranslatorTom. Said TranslatorTom would be forced to delete his social media accounts due to correctly including the word "tranny" in a Goemon 3 translation for the term "newhalf." Yes, I am aware of the irony.
That clears that up. 2 different Toms for 2 different Bahamut Lagoon translations.
I do remember the Goemon controversy when it happened and thinking TranslatorTom was mentally weak (as those in the creative space often are) for backing down from the Tranny criticism and deleting his social media. He's still on Twitter as @RetroTranslator.
I support free speech absolutely, even when it's speech I don't like, because silencing it only makes things worse. I even defended Tom in the recent Goemon translation controversy, knowing that'd lose me support among my friends. And I'll lose a lot of support by simply posting here at all. So be it.
I'm with you there that he's completely isolated in a way that most people would hate. It's surely not healthy, but his self-imposed isolation is rather different from the forced isolation that lockdowns caused for other people. On the note of isolation...online presence is one thing and especially now it can seem like a real thing, but it kinda isn't? I don't have (time to find) anything backing up my claim, but at least consequences of coof lockdowns show a pattern. So in my mind 'social contact only online' reads as completely isolated.
...if we're to believe that someone (Hector or not) sat listening to byuu die then we also need to take at face value the rest of the Google Doc info, which mentions seeing byuu IRL 17 days prior:No IRL associates in Japan
It's impossible to say what's real though.I last saw Near on June 9. We had sushi in Akihabara, and then sat down for a cup of coffee. I was a bit busy that day, but I was looking forward to inviting them over to hang out again soon.
Personal enemies:
Approximately two months after my post above, there were logs leaked regarding drama with someone named Dan AKA andientart.
I'd tentatively add andienart to that list. His name is new to me so idfk where or how he figures in.it seems there is someone in byuu's circle that is firmly convinced Dan/adientart was the person that put the final nail in the coffin.

Now, that's where you're wrong kiddo.cared for him.
Agree and agree he very probably had at least some limited irl social contacts. I guess I should be more clear what I mean and now typing I realise it's actually probably not outright a thing about isolation but I can't imagine isolation is going to be helpful anyway - immersing himself into a (literally) fatal spiral of depression induced delusional thinking. I'm sure one can slip into that even if surrounded by genuine friends but Byuu's social situation seems like a clear aggravating factor.his self-imposed isolation is rather different from the forced isolation that lockdowns caused
It was never made clear how @Wayne Beckett got a picture of the urn. Maybe the funerary sent it to him. It makes sense it's just a cheapo jar to temporarily hold his ashes before scattering them but that still makes it the hilarious that they put him in a cheap jar.I'm just a messenger but here is Null's exact words on the MATI:

And I totally don't believe some guy who is not Simple Jack or even Hiromi had a picture of Byuu's autopsy that the embassy didn't have.It was never made clear how @Wayne Beckett got a picture of the urn.
I agree that claim is 100% bullshit, but I thought the claim was just he had a picture of the body, as in at the apartment or something, but if they were claiming it was from autopsy it sounds even more like bullshit. The MOST they’d be given if anything at all would be a drawing of the body and what injuries it sustained, and a description of death. I don’t know what they even gained from making that claim, as either way it’s not the best look to have a picture of your dead friend/coworker you’re just sitting on. Fortunately everyone was busy shitting on us instead of going after someone claiming to sit on autopsy photos he got… just because? And I totally don't believe some guy who is not Simple Jack or even Hiromi had a picture of Byuu's autopsy that the embassy didn't have.
I don't recall if it was specifically said to be the autopsy, but it's not like a morgue or crime scene photo is any more plausible. I mean, can you imagine the Japanese cops sending a grieving spouse a photo taken mid-ACK?I agree that claim is 100% bullshit, but I thought the claim was just he had a picture of the body, as in at the apartment or something, but if they were claiming it was from autopsy it sounds even more like bullshit.
Ah, velly solly. We must use clime scene foto. We also had to mosaic censor inadvertent election, rocal raw, you unnastand.I don't recall if it was specifically said to be the autopsy, but it's not like a morgue or crime scene photo is any more plausible. Apologies to all Kiwis for almost losing information on account of being retarded.I believe the logs were from telegram though I'm not familiar enough to say for certain. Annoyingly, the logs were exported without pictures so I don't have the full context.
The #DropKiwiFarms movement only cared about David insofar they could use his death as a vehicle to drive the movement forward. His death was just a convenient excuse to give the movement a cause that seemed reasonable to an uninformed outside observer. So, it's been two weeks.
I guess our kweer friends might not care all that much about poor David as they tried to portray...
This part is the only thing that actually makes me feel sad he died. Not because he himself is gone, but he left someone who is clearly autistic at the very least hoping all the way until the end that he’ll get a happy life with a man he likely viewed as very interesting and smart. David said it was a “platonic relationship” but to me it always read more as “I left my husband while he had a crisis in his life and had to take care of children, but I string him along so I don’t have to worry about divorceFunny that, now that I think about it. His husband, the one person in the world who legitimately cared about his well-being, is having to fight an uphill battle to get David's things back because David cared more about his internet friends and the guy who he thought was the primary source of his grief (Null) than his supposed lifelong partner. Scumbag.
