It was honestly pretty nice. I call it a crack motel cuz a lot of the renters were drug addicts, but it was just a old motel in the tourist area of town that no tourist would stay at anymore. Anyway I never would have found that for 750 if I didn't try it for a week at like 200 something. Now the room for 200 something was horrible compared to what I got for 750, and the rent did skyrocket in the summer but it worked out well until I was able to rent a house. I'm sure Daniel could have found something like that in CO maybe not with a ocean view but you something similar maybe even cheaper.

I was reading this whole exchange last night and I may have had a bit of a schmoke beforehand, and it struck me as being illustrative of something about Clark, Daniel and Zoomer behaviour in general compared to earlier generations.

Millennials and GenXers all remember a time without the internet, or at least a time before social media. When the internet did first arrive, in my case with 56k dialup as a teenager, it was a toy. You couldn't do all that much with it except shallow entertainment. There were other people out there on the internet, but they were all anonymous and the whole thing was a big game. Nothing serious happened on the internet. Most people understood that words on a screen couldn't hurt them, because they had grown up in the real world with real problems, someone calling you a dumbass on the internet wasn't a real problem. This was the culture, the internet is just jokes, and the dumbest thing you could do was to get mad at what people were saying.

The early internet was a huge game, where if you got the other guy to lose their temper you won, and they lost, and everyone else would laugh at them. That culture still persists here on KF - on KF, being "Mad At The Internet (tm)" is the worst thing you can be. It's the only negrate that subtracts 2 from your score, the rest only subtract 1. Something Awful's tagline was "The Internet Makes You Stupid" and their "Awful Link of the Day" was usually to someone who took the internet too seriously. Portal of Evil (basically proto-KF, RIP my homies) was a repository of idiots who took the internet seriously. 4Chan had the Navy Seal copypasta to mock people who got mad at internet arguments. But for people who were born with the internet as the dominant medium of communication (say in the last 25 years), that's a very different formative experience. Growing up with Online and Meatspace both present in your life makes it harder to tell the two things apart. As an example, older generations had two sets of friends, irl friends and internet buddies whose real names they didn't even know, and very different social rules applied to each group, and each group understood that. But if you're 20, all your friends are on the internet, and you know their real names. During lockdown, your entire social life was on the internet and for most it still is that way years after it ended. You apply what would normally be "irl friends only" rules to internet randoms, and suddenly the internet is Serious Business. If someone went up to your face and called you a retarded shitnigger, you'd probably get pretty mad. But if someone calls you a retarded shitnigger on the internet, how you respond depends on what sort of social space the internet occupies in your brain. Older users, with two separate social rulesets in their heads, will respond by calling you a faggot jew spastic, and everyone has a sensible chuckle. But younger users will react like you said that to their face because they only have one set of social rules for both spaces, and either demand censorship or just get really enraged.

People like Clark are that same rule in reverse. They grew up online, but instead of applying irl social rules to an internet situation like @TheBearMan did, they are so maladjusted that they apply internet social rules to irl situations.
