How much cheaper would have been to settle after a formal apology? That oportunity is long gone, and Nick's ego wouldn't allow it, but the sum should be in the 5-6 figures of lawyers cost already.
Monty only asked the court for money in excess of* 50k. He has definitely spent more than that on his lawyer already.
Quest filed his suit on January 11, 2023, and alleged that Rekieta has made false statements (defamation) about him and has threatened Quest with physical violence. Quest asked the court for a sum of $50,000 in compensatory damages and "a permanent prohibitory injunction be issued prohibiting Defendants from engaging in the practices complained of herein."
It would have cost Nick less money to just do nothing

*edit. Monty asked for in excess of 50k, not a sum of 50k

I can't wait for the deposition videos. Assuming he shows up like he's supposed too (possibly not), Rekieta will show up either drunk or hungover. Only two options.

It would have cost Nick less money to just do nothing
Yes, which is why legal autists are so horrified by Rekieta's legal strategy and there is some speculation Randazza is taking Rackets for a Ride for reasons of his own dislike. He probably could have settled for less and a public apology. He's probably spent 5 times more money in the pre-trial stage before discovery then what he would have had to spend to just admit to everything in his answer and proceed to the damages hearing.

Which IS a viable legal strategy, not one taken very often of course. But it is there.

Nick needs in-patient rehab, Ive been following this guy for years and his alcoholism is destroying his life. Send him away for 3 months in a facility, get him sober and keep him away from the liquor. He needs to be reminded that he is not fuctional in this state, even though he thinks he is. I've dealt with alcoholic family members and I see so many of the same behaviors in Nick, it hurts my soul to see him fall to these depths of depravity and spergery.

No he didn't. He asked for IN EXCESS of $50,000. Check the complaint itself. IIRC, under MN rules, it is not necessary to specify a dollar amount if you are seeking more than $50,000.

This is wrong information which won't go away and I didn't know why, but it makes sense if the information was incorrect in the OP for the lawsuit thread.

He's a prick when sober too.

A good lawyer could have worked that down, I imagine. A formal apology, in public, on Twitter and in video form, plus blaming substance abuse and entering a rehab clinic (even as a PR move) could have worked down the price. I imagine most people would rather take 20k now plus the apology, than going through trial and maybe losing or even not getting the offered settlement.

It might not have been anything. Monty might have just accepted an apology and retraction.

Nick was never gonna give him either though, so it's almost pointless to speculate.

It is. To wit:
Quest asked the court for a sum of $50,000 in compensatory damages
That's like the least of that OP's problems though. Far worse is it still includes the photography studio claim (after Null axed it from his thread) and the batshit insane claim from that batshit insane blog that the actress in Monty's movie was actually murdered by him.

In the interests of basic human decency, there's some things in that OP that really need be cleaned up. I wouldn't even include the melon thing, since even that is pretty dubious.

I dunno if I should do a TTS thing, and ask to be given the OP, or what though. In any event, @5t3n0g0ph3r hasn't been on in over a year, so he's probably not gonna fix it. Maybe @Useful_Mistake would want it?
