I think people need to gain a little perspective on what happened in the context of how the courts and police see it.

Nick & Kayla are bad parents who put their own pleasure above their family. They used drugs and did unsafe things.

The police see this sort of thing everyday and much worse. This is a mild case and considering Nick's position and wealth it's unlikely he or Kayla will spend long in prison, if at all.

Of course Nick would say the kids weren't in danger- he's a junkie who's not in his right mind. He had his weapon and magazines for ti under the bed where a kid could get to it. There were credit cards and other stuff around the house with coke residue on them. Even if all that stuff was secure, the kids were still in long-term danger because their parents are junkies with impaired judgement. I tears me up to think about those kids being separated from both both parents for who knows how long, but they can't live with a ticking time bomb without being at risk. "Safe" or not according to Nick- who has outright lied about the extent of his drug use for months, isn't reassuring. The kids needed to get out of there, painful as it is.

Not to noseguard, but notice the documents state the weight of the cocaine is "with packaging". This is a common tactic to increase the weight of drugs found during searches. Realistically what they found in pure powder wasn't enough to charge him with having 25 grams, but the packaging pushed him over the limit.

That being said most drug packaging isn't super heavy, so he still had well over a half ounce of coke. Which is a fucking ton for an recreational user.
