I'm worried about their apparent lack of nutrition. Especially for the younger ones, there's an unfortunate chance those kids grow up short and with medical conditions because they didn't eat right when they were growing. It's called nutrient deficiency.

My hope is that it was only a recent thing after the nanny left and that it was more food insecurity and not getting enough to eat than actual starvation. I feel like that’s more likely the case as I would hope the older kids would’ve done or said something if it was literal starvation. It sounds dumb but when I was at the depths of my own alcoholism it started being a thing for me too. I never really had a thing for self harm but when I was near hitting bottom the fear and the shame was almost overwhelming especially late at night alone in bed.

There were a few times where hitting or other self harming behaviors became a thing.

Thankfully for me it did not last long nor any permanent harm before I got sober but I can absolutely attest this is a thing for some people
