he's professed that his strategy was always to settle as soon as possible.

That's what 95% of all cases end up. Law is less "magic word gotems" and more "a slogging war of attrition until one party either runs out of money or calls it". Furthermore if he only did civil stuff he might never have been in a trial for ages. I know that lawyers will specialize in certain areas of law and will outsource other lawyers who know an area better. Similar to a Dr. like sure your Orthopedic surgeon can do eye stuff but it's not his bread and butter so he will send you to an eye dr.

There is a reason its called "probable cause". You do things that make them draw a conclusion, you are inviting them to toss your house and go through everything in your life. They don't have to be right to get a search warrant. They just need to meet "probable cause".
