Keeping vague for obvious reasons, but because of the geographical area where I practiced healthcare/social services I have met a lot of meth users and the sores are consistent with those developed by some users who never injected intravenously, only smoked/snorted/ingested. Sores were easily mistaken for track marks at first glance except that they appear in places where the person would not be injecting. Some patients/clients would develop them and some wouldn't. I met one patient/client who said that his parent had warned him as a kid that they were genetically predisposed to skin boils, smoking meth exacerbated the issue severely. I doubt that Nick was using meth but they're both stimulants and probably cut with the same types of random chemicals so I could see the same condition manifesting with chronic cocaine use. I think it's really unlikely that he was injecting.
