Unless what I said earlier is the case, I have anecdotally heard that US kids can seem way younger than their equivalent European kids.

Probably not in every state and town, but some middle Americans who still live comparatively more traditionally nuclear family, the kids don’t find themselves doing kitchen or laundry chores until they leave for college.
