What do Nick's detractors want? (I can't believe I'm quoting Camelot, but sometimes the dumbest people ask the smartest questions.) From mild to severe:
  • Accountability and apology?
  • Shame?
  • Rehab?
  • Cancellation?
  • Prison?
  • Suicide? Given the number of "Kill Yourself" posts on this thread since 5/23 that's clearly in the mix.
As for me, a newcomer, I think accountability and rehab are essential. I also choose option #1 in your post. I am a softie and believe strongly in redemption. Nick was uniquely charismatic, engaging, sometimes intelligent, and entertaining. He is also a selfish junkie and probably a malignant narcissist. Many things can be true, and all that.

The judge would have to reject the plea outright. If he accepts a deferred adjudication, there is no sentencing until there is a violation. By deferring sentencing, the conviction isn't recorded. It's different in that way from a suspended sentence. If Nick fails though, the judge can impose what he sees fit.

Deferred adjudication would mean Nick beats it if he gets clean. Prosecutor may even allow no contest if his ego is that fragile. His ego is what would have him put his faith in himself over a jury. He wants to prove to everyone he's not an addict and believes 24 mos of clean drug tests would do it. He'll fight rehab but not the deferred adjudication. He'll have to swallow hard to admit he needs rehab.

Even if stayed, it's a felony conviction. A deferred adjudication would mean no recorded conviction unless he fails conditions. It makes it much more attractive to accept such a plea. Non-violent drug offenses are the perfect vehicle for that kind of plea offer.

I guess since that one question got so many fucking answers, I'll answer too, but I'll say what I don't want to happen to him. I definitely don't want him to live each day up to the trial knowing thousands upon thousands of people are excitedly hoping for the bodycam footage to release to somebody, to prove that his crackhouse is a reality. I do not want him to get guilty convictions on all the charges, and for him to get sent to prison for many years. I also do not want one of the gangs in the prison he's sent to to have a greater moral compass than him, have a disdain for people that abuse children, and to beat the crap out of him just to teach him a lesson in the only way somebody as smug and arrogant as him would understand. I also do not want him to lose the respect of absolutely everybody in his local community that he might still have, and for the people that act as nose-guards online to forget about him over the years (old grift, short term memory), so he has nobody to turn to for companionship when he eventually gets out.

But I'll tell you what I do want - I definitely want him to sober up right away, and get right back to the trial streams. Plus that new Instagram photo definitely doesn't look like a cokehead trying to look young and hip, and not like a stinky piece of shit. 10/10 would plug my nose at.

Nick Rekieta is such a pathetic loser that his highlights in a given day now are driving while high or drunk, while feeling relieved that his kids aren't in the car to up his charges if those darn pigs were to recognize his swerving all over the road and pull him over.

There are pieces of shit, then there's Nicholas Rekieta - he sees absolutely zero problem with driving kids around while drunk. Even those that are generally assholes have limits, and there are things even they consider morally repugnant, then there's Nicholas Rekieta.
