I can’t blame Salad for having quit the scene (I still think the ‘emergency’ is related to him, hopefully his Dad is ok) but it’s telling, if true, that she has absolutely no place within his family. That's about a mile from her. I was scared for a second. I saw some Indian news reports and the building looked very similar and had a parking lot in front of it (and something that looked like a pool on the roof).

As Mrs Whitney pointed out, yeah it isn't close to her building but it is incredibly possible that it can happen. Their buildings are all around fire hazards, built by pretty much slave labour and shitty materials. Chantal has the best, possible luck I have ever witnessed online and real life, a true cockroach.

*Edit* If you're in the UK it reminds me of the Grenfell Towers and how it exposed how poorly the tower was built and thousands of people are still living in the same type of situations.

I feel it’s a little unfair to equate it with Grenfell. In this case, the water and electrics were up to code (excluding the offending washing machine). The mistake was the horrifically flammable exterior cladding which was at fault. The cladding company sued and their cladding removed from hundreds of similar towers.
In Kuwait, the carelessness and general lackadaisical attitude extends through the building industry, the interior fittings and the outside infrastructure.

Walk around Kuwait. I dare you. You’ll be subject to overheated, stretched electrical wires dangling haphazardly pretty much anywhere. You’ll find power lines lying in puddles leading to the ac units. You’ve seen the setup in Chantal’s previous bathroom for yourselves. White goods in a wet room. You can be walking along (carefully) and see old ladies falling into pits dug into the roads for maintenance. (No signs or barriers. Just holes.) I’ve seen mothers propel pushchairs into random holes around the markets.

It’s every man for himself. Including any crappy jury-rigged power/ water system you care to risk your home with. I mean, it’s not quite as bad as, say, Kowloon levels bad. But there are comparisons to be made.

Throw in a hot sun and dry weather, it’s amazing anything is still standing.

I remember that one. There was one not long ago in the US too. In Twin Parks in NYC (Bronx). The death toll wasn't as high but a similar situation. Insane. People need housing, and most of us don't think about the structure. You keep a fire extinguisher and practice fire safety but what does that help you when everything from the inside of the walls to the facade is burning. Also, you're helpless if your neighbour is cooking meth at home or weighs 400 lbs, has the dexterity of a amoeba and smokes shisha in a cum soaked sofa filled room.
