The Linux Thread - The Autist's OS of Choice

Yes. I recently discovered that a hero had archived all the Windows 3.1 desktop backgrounds in a convenient, space efficient PNG format, so you can use them with your modern desktop.
That page and the zip file of the originals really drive home how wacky it was these got included with 3.1. That's a quarter to half a disk of little bmps there.

256color was the simplest thing around but boy it let you flex on people who didn't have a good video card.

Do any of you folks rice your desktops? I just wanna geta figure.
I did an initial configuration since it was pretty barebones. If you mean all the bells and whistles like animated resource usage charts, rounded window corners, animations etc. then no. All the real estate on my screen is normally occupied by something, all the fancy shit in general feels like a waste of CPU cycles.

If you actually got water on your stuff it's probably fine, modern electronics can tolerate quite a bit. Water itself isn't going to break shit, it's the shit in the water. Unplug it, take batteries/ PSUs out, dry with a paper towel as well as you can and douse those motherfuckers in contact cleaner.

The contact cleaner is non conductive and it should help get whatever conductive stuff is in the water off of your circuits. Distilled water is also a good option, especially if you get soda or something on it. If you do spill sticky liquids, you might have to get in there and scrub it out with some qtips, microfiber cloths and distilled water.

Let it air dry, maybe use a fan or something and keep turning it around to make sure water isn't stuck in any nooks and crannies. Ideally you should disassemble as much as you're comfortable with reassembling back to assure there's no sneaky water waiting to fry your stuff.

If it's just a small spot, you should be fine with just tapping it dry, maybe using a bit of contact cleaner for good measure.

Bros I love free software so much. I know it's easy to fixate on problems we have with it or a piece that could be a lot better but just imagine how awful it would be if all you had was proprietary operating systems to choose from.

Some posters in this thread seem pretty able and could probably just write their own kernels &c. but for the less technical of us this stuff really is amazing. When you really think about how powerful a machine a modern computer is it blows my mind that I'm able to do everything I can/have done with it basically free of charge (excluding the hardware costs of a used laptop) and in my choice of any way of (usually) a multitude of options. And the free options are often so simple too; just seeing how frustrated a friend or colleague can get being forced to use some bloated piece of crap software because they think they have no other choice is enough to make me consciously thankful for the rest of the day.

White people don't season they desktop. About the most ricing I do is sticking a dark theme on xfce and twiddling with the bar. Putting it at the bottom not top, whisker menu, Hours, mins and seconds on the clock. Das it mane.

Hey hey me again getting angry at the pedostache blondeman. Why do I watch his videos you ask? The answer is I am retarded.

Some developers suck at using S3 and developing for the web. They don't secure content types and all the fun stuff that breaks my tampermonkey scripts. Some retards handle generating the file's key to upload on the client side(why are js developers like this?), so you can replace that key with something already existing on the server and change it.

The solution? Use Theo's service of course. He made these fifty extra lines of code for you, so now you can pay him monthly instead of doing it yourself!

I've always wanted to do this...what about genthree?

We like to complain but things honestly have never been better. If you don't care about vidya you can buy a computer for around a hundred bucks and basically do anything with it. Even actually some vidya.

why are js developers like this
Because they have absolutely no idea how computers work. I know this sounds like I'm making fun of them but I'm actually entirely serious.

There are two kinds of JS developers.

1) the sort who write it because it's the easy meme language they learned to pretend they're a real developer

Reorganizing my bookmarks, deleted GrapheneOS because of Daniel Micay. What's the recommended actively developed alternative?
Calyx is the alternative that I've always heard recommended, though I've never ran either. Can also go with Vanilla LineageOS with MicroG if you want more phone options. It's my current setup, though it's slightly less skitzo vs the other options. Running it on a OnePlus N200 that cost a whole $80.
