It has a pretty consistent content schedule of between 5-20 hours of new content every 3-4 months so it's not a terrible deal compared to buying yearly CoD passes or whatever slop normies buy nowadays. But also you can play the first 2/3rds of the campaign for free without restrictions on a trial account.

Plus the sub fees go a long way to keeping the thirdie population in check.

It being extremely casual friendly is nice too in a way. Like higher end players can finish a raid tier and fuck off to some other game without worrying about falling behind in any sort of progression because they don't log in every single day and spam dailies like a gacha game. Regular players can do daily content for tomestones and gear up that way, only leaving them behind the raid players until late in the patch cycle. But that doesn't matter because you only really need raid gear to continue raiding. Players with little time can just ignore raiding and dailies entirely, just doing the main story and side story stuff, and still not really suffer in performance anywhere.

I've been looking to get into MMORPGS and I really like the graphic aesthetic of the game so the fact you have to pay shit every month really upsets me.

Is there really no other way to not have to pay every month other than trial?

I'd only recommend getting into an MMO if you have absolutely nothing going on for you at the moment. This game will take you an extremely long time to complete the main quest alone.

If we were talking initial release sure, but they cut an assload out quest wise. You can get thru pretty fast now. As for the trial, you can get pretty far into the game on a trial account, and as long as you dont try to play on steam then try to transfer to windows, the transition to a full account is only a little bit of a pain.

For 2.X sure, but then they made the crystal tower raids mandatory because of shadowbringers, which actually increased the total number of main quests iirc. It's especially dumb because they did the opposite for palace of the dead: they made the tamtara questline optional, despite it being central to that plotline.

But yes, a trial account gets you through stormblood. It also might be better in some ways to a full account. Trials have alot of social tools locked, which inoculates you somewhat to the worst of the community. You gotta pay extra to be molested by tranny bunny "girls"

I'd only recommend getting into an MMO if you have absolutely nothing going on for you at the moment. This game will take you an extremely long time to complete the main quest alone.

It's about the same scale of any JRPG, so 35-40 hours on average for each main quest, not including MSQ between X.0 patches. Those can run an additional 40 hours alone. So just running full tilt through the MSQ (which is kinda the main point of the game,) you're easily looking at approximately 350 hours of content for a brand new character. And over half of that is technically free. The game is also on sale quite often with bundles of every expansion within a few months of each expansion's release, which is really good considering they typically sell those versions for the price of just one game. So around 70 bucks MSRP for what is essentially six games.

I had a girlfriend who played this game and I started playing with her and her family. The gameplay is pretty mindless, so it's easy to just hang out and talk while playing. When we broke up and I had to deal with the regular users I quickly lost interest and deleted the game from my PC.

The Lalafell race was always super creepy to me and felt that they're only included for pedo bait.

I mean its a community of people who went full batshit the first time they encountered that quest on nar shadda with an imperial officer that was running a bioweapons program to exterminate aliens. It was the particular species that quest centered around - those cat looking semi retards from hutta. There was a whole group of players that I highly suspect were furry troons that accused bioware of trolling players with secret messages about how people should kill furries because of that. Oddly enough they never seemed to notice or mention the quest on hutta itself where you have to track down somebody who was killing members of that same species and they didn't know why. Then when you find him you find out he's really a czerka executive who is on hutta to hunt them for sport, and you can either tell him to fuck off and stop doing it or take a bribe to let him keep hunting. You'd think the furries would reeeeing more about that one if anything. But then again you only see that if you're an imperial player and then only if you're a bounty hunter or imperial agent, and we all know how troons and their ilk feel about playing the bad guys. You can suss out that theres plenty of them skulking around on the dl by the fact they always claim they will never play the imperial faction 'for ethical reasons' So they probably don't even know about it. Kind of ironic really considering the agent has one of the more interesting storylines in the game

But yeah, certain types of creeps and troon types tend to be attracted to these kinds of games like the plague. No surprise they'd they'd gravitate to a game that has ERP in it, even though given its 13+ rating they're legally not supposed to for obvious reasons

The modding drama and the twitch drama for this game is the worst/funniest shit I’ve seen. There’s been modders who straight up charge RL money for mods that barely work half the time while screaming to their followers to suck their dicks on patreon or their ko-fi, or talk about BS “feel bad for me uwu” in their ffxiv mod discord server.

There’s like batshit mods that were up like lynching mods, nazi mods with the salute pose, and the modding community fell apart over a pride T-shirt mod because that was,” too political”. It is an entire ass clown fest that doesn’t stop.

The twitch drama doesn’t end, especially if you looked up Golden Tate. Last I recalled was the guy sexually assaulted his ex wife out of depression while living in her basement in absolute filth. Golden Tate himself is a lolcow and a half. The literal community would be at war to sympathize with him and yell at you for being remotely negative to him because,” MENTAL HEALTH IS IMPORTANT GAIZ!! I unfortunately used to be friends with someone who has access to the Tatermoon Archive (Lala NSFW Mods). You need to pay $10 to the owner's Paypal account to gain access, and a further $10 to gain access to the discussion discord server.
Somehow one of the least cursed things on there is a mod that changes the Phoenix Riser outfit (Basically a Power Ranger outfit, from a The Rising event) to quote "Skibidi Lalafell", and a meme basecap with the emote that lolicons are obsessed with on it.
