People who watch these vtumors get off on the idea of being gross and being called icky by their oshi. "People" like Gaytor and Fagmenco get off to people calling them disgusting freaks so it's almost impossible to shame them. I could give some info about it.

With regards to pedobait, there's less in the JAPANESE side of things only for one singular reason.

Japan sees Vtubers much more closely as Idols. It's why they have Kamioshi and Oshi for their favorite Vtubers. Furthermore, they have Pettan (flat chested) and Boing boing (Big chested). This is not to say that there aren't pedobait vtubers in the Japanese side of things. There absolutely are. Some examples would be the fact that Shirogane Noel of Hololive Fantasy has once said that she loves Shotacon (which made me not watch anything of hers). Another one would be Murasaki Shion who literally is a loli as well as La+ Darkness who is a loli herself.

However, what's different is that La+ and Shion don't encourage NSFW art of themselves. I've yet to see anything (of the various clips I've seen, I'm not going to go into those streams because I don't want to look at Laplus or Shion).

In terms of the most egregious (aside from Noel) , I'd need to come back on that because I've only seen more of Okayu, Korone, and Subaru).

Edit 1: Turns out Shion has done some very NSFW things such as jumping with her miniskirt (which would show off whatever she wears beneath) and when she shook her hips a few times.

Edit 2: Also I no longer will be watching Okayu due to her talking about her being a closet lolicon when she talked about No Game No Life. While she doesn't say anything overtly sexual about the loli characters in there, she does make that joke. So to be cautious, I will not be watching Okayu over that. But Korone has not had anything of that nature and she's a big westaboo (whatever the fuck the equivalent of a weeb for anime is) since she did sing that South park Japanese song where Matt and Trey literally said "Protect my balls". Unfortunately Subaru did sing the Loli Requiem song, but my guess is that it was because of it being a big TikTok thing. Indefensible nonetheless but I'll at least still watch her from time to time since she usually is just screaming at games.

Because of its very early Disney influences. As for how things went from then it strongly depends on the mangaka as each had their own very distinct, and in some cases very iconic, art style.

Since the 2010s things started to look increasingly a bit same. To keep a long story reasonably short, Sword Art Online and its consequences have been a disaster for the industry as its style became more or less the CalArts of animu.

Supposedly, it was theorized that the anime style was inspired by cats to make them cute, but I think it was just because many artists just chose to stylize it to save time.

Cats are cute. These animu women aren't cute at all.
Cats also have noses, the lack of nose on the cartoons makes me think of Slenderman, its fucking creepy. Same with the grossly oversized eyes, maybe its just me but it sets off the Uncanny Valley response, I don't know how anyone could find something with no facial features and oversized eyes cute.

Occams Razor does suggest just lazy artists. Maybe its just too much effort to draw human (or any] facial features.
I guess if you're used to Japanese cartoons you don't notice it as much but when you're not used to it the first thing that jumps out to me about a lot of these VTuber avatars (after the creepy children thing) is the lack of a nose, like the bastard spawn of Michael Jackson and Slenderman.
The only Japanese artist I know is Junji Ito and his characters have faces.
